Almost one year ago, we watched as Thanos snapped his destructive fingers and brought an end to the universe as we know it. We sat at the edge of our seats as Spider-Man’s spidey senses warned him of the impending doom and as he slowly disappeared without a trace. Iron Man was heartbroken by the loss of his new son, but no one was as devastated as the fans. We cried, we mourned, and we screamed for justice.

Ever since that day, we’ve also closely watched the news, waiting for the return of our neighborhood Spider-Man. Thankfully, we finally received some good news with the release of the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer. The trailer showed us that the web-slinging superhero makes it out alive and confirmed many of the rumors making their rounds across the Internet. However, the trailer also left us with many questions, comments, and concerns. This generated more rumors and opened a Pandora’s Box of endless possibilities. What will happen to our favorite hero now and where do we go from here?

So, let’s swing right on in and untangle the web of mysteries with these 13 Confirmed Theories About Spider-Man: Far From Home (And 13 We Hope Are True).

CONFIRMED: It Takes Place Minutes After Avengers: Endgame

Spider-Man Far From Home Avengers Endgame Hints

The Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer had no mention of the events of Infinity War or the destruction of half of the universe, which led many fans to think that the movie was set pre-Thanos.

However, producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal have both confirmed that the film is not a prequel and does indeed takes place after Avengers: Endgame. In fact, Pascal said, “We are starting now the next [Spider-Man], which will start a few minutes after Avengers 4 wraps as a story.” Therefore, it seems as though the Avengers somehow saved the day and brought Spidey back from the dusting.

HOPE: It will feature 3 Spider-Man Villains: Sandman, Molten Man, and Hydro-Man

In the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, we saw three villains made out of natural elements – sand, water, and fire. Although they have been dubbed the Elementals, we still have no idea who these monsters are and what role they will play in the movie.

Some fans believe that the Elementals will be revealed as three iconic Spider-Man villains: Sandman, Molten Man, and Hydro-Man. If you look closely during the trailer when Betty is taking a picture of Ned on the boat in Venice, you’ll see another boat in the background labeled “Asm 212.” This references Amazing Spider-Man #212, a comic featuring Hydro-Man. So, could this Easter egg point to Hydro-Man’s introduction in the movie?

CONFIRMED: Nick Fury will recruit Spider-Man to fight the Elementals

The trailer confirmed that Peter Parker and his schoolmates are taking a fun and adventurous trip to Europe. However, their vacation is far from relaxing, as Nick Fury shows up and interrupts the fun.

The founder of the Avengers is coming to seek Spidey’s help and finally recruit him as an official member of the team. It looks like the web-slinging hero will have to help Fury save the world from Elementals that are wreaking havoc in Europe. Will Spider-Man defeat these elemental villains, and what obstacles will he encounter along the way?

HOPE: Iron Man will not make it out of Avengers: Endgame

The Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer gave us a great look at the upcoming movie. However, there’s one person missing from the trailer: Iron Man. Stark is nowhere to be seen, and the trailer reveals small clues that suggest he won’t make it out of Avengers: Endgame alive.

For example, check out the cheque that Happy is holding at the beginning of the trailer. It’s signed by Pepper Potts, rather than Stark himself. Although this can be explained by a number of reasons, one significant explanation is because Stark is no longer around to sign the cheque. Fury also seems to have taken Iron Man’s place as Peter’s mentor, which could further suggest that Iron Man is gone.

CONFIRMED: Jake Gyllenhaal is playing Mysterio

Back in December, Jake Gyllenhaal joined Instagram and made a huge splash. He uploaded a video of him reading a 1989 Amazing Spider-Man comic called “The Return of the Man Called Mysterio”, but puts it down to reveal his shocked expression. In the caption, he wrote, “I just realized I’m not playing Spider-Man.”

This was Gyllenhaal's way of revealing his role as Mysterio and it took the world by storm. Then, we all got to see him in the full Mysterio costume in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer and he certainly didn’t disappoint. He looks very much like the character from the comics and provides great service to comic fans.

HOPE: Vulture will return to introduce the Sinister Six

Vulture putting on his mask in Spider-Man: Homecoming

At the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, we see Vulture in prison chatting about revenge on Spider-Man. Now, it seems like he’s protecting Peter Parker in the scene, but some fans feel otherwise. One rumor suggests that Vulture will return in Spider-Man: Far From Home and start up the group of baddies, the Sinister Six.

We’ve already seen Mysterio and a potential hint at Sandman in the trailer, so the only villains left would be Electro, Kraven the Hunter, and Doctor Octopus. Maybe we’ll see the other three revealed in the movie as Vulture continues his reign of terror.

CONFIRMED: The Avengers Tower is under construction

Avengers Tower in the MCU

As Spider-Man is swinging through New York City in the trailer, you may have noticed a building under construction. This building is the Avengers Tower.

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, we saw that the building was being packed up and prepared for a new resident. However, it looks like the tower has now been bought and someone is moving in fairly soon. Some fans believe that this building was bought by Oscorp, and we could potentially see Norman Osborn and the Green Goblin in the upcoming movie. Others think that this will be a new S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. In the trailer, Fury is standing in front of glass windows, much like the ones featured in the building.

HOPE: Fury will replace Stark as Parker's Mentor

Spider-Man Meets Nick Fury in Far From Home

In the trailer, Nick Fury surprises Parker and takes him for a ride. It seems as though he’s taking Spider-Man under his wing and showing him the ropes while they take down the Elementals in Europe. However, this isn’t a new plotline. In the comics, Spider-Man and Fury work together in Secret War, where they travel to Latveria to destroy weapons being illegally sold to villains.

Since they’re trying to stay under the radar, Parker dons a darker and stealthier version of his suit, much like the one in the trailer. This has sparked rumors that Fury will provide Parker with this suit in the movie to help limit his connection to the U.S. and S.H.I.E.L.D.

CONFIRMED: Aunt May knows Peter is Spider-Man and encourages him

Spider-Man and Aunt May in Far From Home

At the end of Homecoming, Aunt May catches Peter Parker wearing his iconic red and blue Spidey suit. However, now the Far From Home trailer confirms that she does indeed know that Parker is Spider-Man.

Not only does Aunt May know about Peter’s alter ego, but she also apparently encourages it. During the trailer, we see her supporting Peter as he makes a public appearance at a charity event to prevent homelessness. In the international official trailer, Aunt May also packs Peter’s Spidey suit in his suitcase in case of an emergency. So, it seems like she’s a major supporter of the neighborhood Spider-Man.

HOPE: Liz Allan will become Firestar

Liz Allan simply disappeared from Homecoming when her father went to prison. However, some rumors suggest that she’ll come back in Far From Home.

Liz Allan became Firestar in Ultimate Spider-Man #118 and some fans believe that her father’s crimes and her move would be enough to fuel her onto her path. It would also be a great way for the MCU to incorporate the X-Men into the universe after their Fox acquisition. Other rumors suggest that Liz Allan will become the Green Goblin. The Vulture could serve as Norman Osborn in this Spider-Man adaptation, allowing Allan to blame Spider-Man for her family’s demise and ultimately seek revenge as the Green Goblin.

CONFIRMED: Most of the movie takes place in Europe

When the title of the movie was released, many people were wondering what “Far from Home” meant. Well, now the trailer has revealed that the title is referring to Europe as a place that is far from Spidey's home.

Peter Parker and his classmates are all taking a school trip to Europe. Based on scenes in the trailer, we can tell that they leave New York and head to European cities such as London, Venice, and Prague. Furthermore, we see that most of the action in the trailer takes place in Europe, rather than in Spider-Man’s hometown of New York City. This adventure will take the neighborhood Spider-Man worldwide as he tries to stop the foreign Elementals.

HOPE: Mysterio is a Mystic like Doctor Strange

Spider-Man Far From Home Mysterio Powers

Doctor Strange is a mystic with the ability to bend space and time. However, he’s not the only one. We’ve also been introduced to Dormammu, Wong, and Mordo in the past and some fans believe we’re about to find out about another mystic.

In the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, Mysterio fights Hydro-Man and uses his magical powers to create a green shield. This shield is very similar to the ones that Doctor Strange uses throughout his solo movie and Infinity War. Therefore, some rumors suggest that Mysterio could be calling upon the same mystic forces.

CONFIRMED: The movie will be released on July 5th

Ever since Spider-Man’s dusting in Infinity War, we’ve all been sitting on the edge of our seats trying to figure out what happened to the newest Avenger. In the Avengers: Endgame trailer, we saw him on the list of missing people, but it looks like now he’ll be all right in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

From “I don’t want to go” to going far from home, Peter Parker has clearly had a long journey. Although we don’t know what happened to him yet, it looks like we’ll see him in his next solo movie on July 5th. This is after Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, so hopefully, all will be revealed by then.

HOPE: Hulk will replace Iron Man as Peter's mentor

Bruce Banner Tells Tony Stark About Thanos Avenges Infinity War

The consensus among fan theories seems to point to the fact that Iron Man will not make it out of Avengers: Endgame. However, the theories about who will take his place as Spider-Man’s mentor have been all over the place.

One interesting theory suggests that Bruce Banner, or the Hulk, will take this role. Banner is a scientist who would align really well with Spider-Man’s origin story. Not only this, but he was also very close to Iron Man. Banner could easily fit into Stark’s shoes and help Peter build new suits and upgrades to his web-slinging technology.

CONFIRMED: Tony Revolori will return as Flash Thompson

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis was Vulture. However, as Peter Parker, Flash Thompson is his biggest enemy.

After the release of the trailer, we now know that Tony Revolori will return as Flash Thompson and continue to pick on Parker on their trip to Europe. He, however, now seems to be a complete Spider-Man fanboy. Flash Thompson becomes Venom in the comics and it would be very interesting if the MCU continues with this storyline. This might also be the reason why we never saw Tom Holland in Venom. The two worlds aren’t actually connected.

HOPE: The woman with Fury in the trailer is Captain Marvel

Nick Fury and Maria Hill Fight Sandman in Spider-Man Far From Home

During the trailer, we saw two agents fighting against a villain made of sand. The man is clearly Nick Fury, but the jury is still out on who the mystery woman alongside him is.

Since Cobie Smulders has already revealed that she will return for Spider-Man: Far From Home, many believe that the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is a natural fit. She would most likely follow Fury to Europe to help fight the elementals. However, some fans have noticed that the mystery woman’s hair is a shade too light to be Maria Hill. Instead, they believe that she’s actually Captain Marvel.

CONFIRMED: A budding romance between Peter and MJ

At the beginning of Spider-Man: Homecoming, we were all confused when Peter was romantically involved with Liz Allan. However, at the end of the movie, Michelle reveals to her academic team that her friends call her MJ.

We all know that MJ is Peter’s love interest in most renditions of the hero’s story and the trailer has confirmed that there will be a budding romance between the two in the next film. During the trailer, Peter tells Ned that he just really wants to spend time with MJ and that he thinks she really likes him. We also see an awkward exchange between the two where they call each other pretty.

HOPE: The Fantastic Four will appear

As Spider-Man is swinging through the New York skyline, you can catch a glimpse of the Avengers Tower under construction. This has sparked a lot of rumors about who or what bought the building.

One rumor out there suggests that the building will eventually become the Fantastic Four’s Baxter Building. This means that we’ll likely see the Fantastic Four heroes in the movie. With two failed Fantastic Four films already released, this is probably a very unlikely scenario. However, it would be an interesting twist that no one saw coming.

CONFIRMED: Cobie Smulders will return as Maria Hill

Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill in Avengers Age of Ultron

We all saw Maria Hill get snapped away in Infinity War. However, during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on January 12th, Cobie Smulders revealed that she will be back again in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Although she also caveated the statement by saying “I can’t tell you what’s happening in it,” we may already know what she’s up to. Fans believe that the woman standing alongside Nick Fury during the sand elemental battle in the Far From Home trailer is Agent Hill. Naturally, she would fight alongside Fury in his quest to protect Europe and mentor Peter Parker.

HOPE: No one is actually in Europe

Casual Costume Spider-Man Far From Home

In this movie, Spider-Man is heading to Europe, but what if he’s not as far from home as we all think? Mysterio is a master illusionist and some rumors suggest that everything we saw in the trailer is all one big lie. Peter and his classmates are not actually in Europe, but are instead in one of Mysterio’s grand performances. They’re actually still in New York City and Peter Parker and Nick Fury simply think they’re fighting off monsters in Europe.

Some rumors even say that no one survived the dusting and they’re all still in the Soul Stone, but Mysterio created an illusion to distract everyone from their devastation.
