Peter Parker and Stephen Strange become Men in Black in a new piece of Spider-Man: No Way Home Crossover art. Men in Black, inspired by the Malibu/Marvel comic book by Lowell Cunningham, became a pop culture phenomenon following its big-screen debut in 1997. A prominent aspect of the Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones sci-fi comedy franchise is the nueralyzer—a tool, or “flashy thing,” used to scrub the minds of those who witnessed things they shouldn’t have. The newest addition to the franchise, Men in Black: International, introduced a neuralyzer capable of wiping out memories on a global level. Sounds like something Peter Parker (Tom Holland) could really use in No Way Home.

Marvel Studios and Sony’s third entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise will see its titular character deal with the aftermath of his secret identity being revealed by J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home. As shown in the recent teaser, Peter goes to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help undoing this global reveal. Instead of heeding Wong’s (Benedict Wong) warning, Strange then attempts a very dangerous spell aimed at making the entire world forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Thanks to Peter’s inability to shut his mouth, the spell goes awry and seemingly opens the Multiverse.

While Men in Black: International—which starred MCU actors Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson—didn’t do its respective franchise any favors, No Way Home is shaping up to be the most anticipated film since Avengers: Endgame. Long before the release of Disney+’s Loki, What If…?, or No Way Home’s trailer, rumors have circulated that the latter film will lead heavily into the Multiverse. No Way Home is now confirmed to feature villains from Sony’s past franchises including (but not limited to) Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx’s Electro. Their inclusion has only exacerbated speculation that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men will also make an appearance.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is poised to mitigate continuity surrounding Marvel franchises. For example, Disney’s acquisition of Fox brought the X-Men and Fantastic Four under the Marvel Studios umbrella. Already-established characters that don’t exist within the MCU can enter it courtesy of the Multiverse theory. Unfortunately for fans of the Men in Black franchise, Smith and Jones seem to be done wearing the black suit, and any and all crossover pitches have been forgotten. Thankfully, No Way Home should change everything and be something audiences never forget.
