Marvel's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is swinging past Superman to receive a Hall of Fame induction at the Comic-Con Museum on July 20, 2022, in a ceremony that will also include the grand opening of "Marvel's Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing — The Exhibition."

The Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame was inaugurated in 2019 "to recognize and honor the most important icons of our industry and the artists and storytellers who created them." Batman was its first inductee, followed by Wonder Woman in 2021. DC Comics' Trinity of heroes is therefore two for three when it comes to Hall of Fame inductions, but before Big Blue can join his Justice League colleagues, it seems the wall-crawling wonder has firmly affixed himself into the Hall of Fame. And it's well-deserved!

This induction is also a highlight of Spider-Man's 60th anniversary, which Marvel just celebrated on June 5, 2022. He famously first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Since then he's become Marvel's number one cash critter, bringing in an annual average of $1.3 billion between films, television, video games, merchandise, and comics. "No other character embodies the heart and humor of Marvel quite like Peter," Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said in Marvel's announcement of the Hall of Fame induction. "We're thrilled to pay tribute to Spider-Man's long-lasting legacy, and we're honored to see him join the Comic-Con Museum Hall of Fame."

Based on the four characters given Hall of Fame status thus far, there could be a pattern emerging. Between Batman's induction in 2019 and Wonder Woman's in 2021, they were broken up by Pac-Man in 2020, something of a dark horse pick considering that the bulk of his influence has been on video games and not comic books. Since it's only a matter of time before Superman completes the set, perhaps he'll round out the Hall of Fame's first five in 2023, which will be his 85th anniversary. Spider-Man would then have served as another buffer, though arguably a more obvious call than the pixelated pill-popper.

Regardless of the CCM's induction strategy, the Character Hall of Fame is an excellent method of acknowledging everyone's favorites and making sure each character gets the recognition they deserve. The fact that this is paired with an entire exhibit devoted to Spidey proves the immense impact the wall-crawler has had on the comics industry. While Superman will no doubt complete the DC Trinity's presence in the Comic-Con Museum's Hall of Fame in due time, it's nice to see Spider-Man stick the landing first.
