Warning! Spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man #6 by Marvel Comics

With Spider-Man's romance with Mary Jane Watson currently up in the air, Peter Parker has reconnected with a familiar face as he shares a kiss with Black Cat in the newest issue of The Amazing Spider-Man. After a particularly tense mission against the Super-Adaptoid and the Sinister Six, Felica Hardy gives the hero a surprise kiss that indicates their romance might be back on in the pages of Marvel Comics.

Peter Parker's main love interest after Gwen Stacy throughout his more than 60 years of stories has always been Mary Jane Watson, as the pair have raised a family and experienced just about every high and low related to life as a superhero. However, Spider-Man has also shared an on-again, off-again romance with Black Cat, as the antihero's intoxicating presence occasionally lured the web-slinger towards her. In the current Amazing Spider-Man run from Marvel Comics, MJ is dating a man named Paul. She is seemingly helping him raise his kids, opening the door for the return of Felicia Hardy and Peter's romance.

In The Amazing Spider-Man #6 by Zeb Wells, Ed McGuinness, Mark Morales, Wade Von Grawbadger, Cliff Rathburn, Marcio Menyz, Dijjo Lima, Erick Arciniega, and VC's Joe Caramagna, J. Jonah Jameson's birthday celebrations are interrupted by the tentacles of Doc Ock. The issue sees Spider-Man discover the computerized Living Brain captured the Sinister Six and created his own Super-Adaptoid combination villain. After freeing the Sinister Six, fighting them, and unplugging the Living Brain, Black Cat comforts Spider-Man in an alley, promising to help him move the computer, so his secret identity isn't exposed to the world. As a "birthday present," Felicia and Peter share a passionate kiss.

What this means for Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson's currently on-the-fritz romance remains to be seen. However, considering she's seemingly in a relationship with Paul and he's kissing Felicia Hardy after a near-death mission, for those hoping to see MJ and Peter Parker together, that might not happen for the time being. Of course, the kiss between Spider-Man and Black Cat could have just been a moment of passion, but considering its implications, readers shouldn't expect to see Peter and Mary Jane's romance return anytime soon.

It will be fascinating to see where The Amazing Spider-Man goes from here regarding Peter Parker's romances. The series has featured Mary Jane Watson and her break-up from Peter heavily, so to see Spider-Man kiss Black Cat in an issue that doesn't even mention her is a surprising turn. Is one of Marvel's greatest romances doomed? Readers can find out more as Amazing Spider-Man #6 by Marvel Comics is in comic book stores now.
