The unparalleled power of Scarlet Witch has long been established both in a number of Marvel Comics storylines and in her most recent MCU escapades such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though she does have one debilitating weakness revealed early on in her career as an Avenger–one that Spider-Man can easily take advantage of in battle.

Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch made her first appearance in X-Men #4 where she was introduced to readers as a villain, one of Magneto's children and a member of his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. However, it was later revealed that Scarlet Witch was not a bad person despite the fact that she had been forced into a life of villainy due to her presumed father. After finally breaking away from the villainous Magneto, Scarlet Witch and her brother Quicksilver joined the Avengers in an effort to redeem themselves for their villainous past. During their first few missions on the team, the Scarlet Witch came off as someone who couldn’t be beaten, seeing as how her unique Hex powers granted her the ability to curse anyone she points at with immediate catastrophe regardless of how physically strong they are. However, fans would soon learn that there is one key way to neutralize Scarlet Witch's seemingly unstoppable powers.

In Avengers #22 by Stan Lee and Don Heck, the Avengers are forced to disband after the first of many future laws is passed in New York, making superheroes illegal. Scarlet Witch and her fellow former Avengers including Hawkeye and Quicksilver have to get jobs elsewhere. In an effort to keep using their skills and abilities to make a living, the former Avengers get a job with a local circus where they can put their powers on full display without fear of breaking any laws. However, the circus they join belongs to the villainous Ringmaster, who tries to hypnotize them to do his dark bidding. When the Avengers fight back, one of Ringmaster’s minions jumps on Scarlet Witch and uses her immense strength to latch onto her, covering Wanda’s eyes and forcing her to become completely immobile. While in this villain’s grasp, Scarlet Witch thinks to herself, “Can’t use my Hex while she covers my eyes!!”.

Spider-Man Can Beat Scarlet Witch Using A Classic Move

Spider-Man can beat Scarlet Witch with one move.

Scarlet Witch’s admission in this issue is a huge reveal in terms of how to stop her if she were to break bad as she's done in the past. If Scarlet Witch can’t use her devastating Hex powers while her eyes are covered, then there is one hero who is the perfect person to call for such a task: Spider-Man. One of Spider-Man’s signature moves is using his webs to cover a villain’s full face, something Spider-Man even did to Thanos during the Infinity Gauntlet story arc. So, this Avengers issue indicates that all Spider-Man would have to do is sling a bit of sticky webbing on Scarlet Witch’s face to cover her eyes. This would render her completely powerless for a few moments, giving Spider-Man a huge tactical advantage.

Even though Spider-Man could strip Scarlet Witch of her powers momentarily with this hilariously infuriating attack, he would still need to recruit the help of some pretty powerful magic users, like Doctor Strange or Clea, if Spider-Man hoped to take Scarlet Witch down for good. However, the fact that Spider-Man, someone with zero magical abilities and a very science fiction-based power set, can launch an attack against Scarlet Witch that could lead to her defeat is an incredibly big deal. Spider-Man could save countless lives should Scarlet Witch decide to launch a House of M-level attack again in the future, something she's only recently been redeemed for. While it may not be permanent without some assistance, Spider-Man can easily beat Scarlet Witch, and her greatest weakness proves it.
