Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producer and co-screenwriter Christopher Miller has shared a poster design featuring Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2099. The new project is a follow-up to the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which a critical and commercial success, nearly quadrupling its $90 million budget in the box office and going on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The animated film followed Miles Morales, a young man who is bitten by a radioactive spider and becomes Spider-Man, only to learn that he must team up with multiple Spider-Men from different universes to stop crime boss Wilson Fisk, who has built a multiverse-threatening device in an attempt to access a world where his wife and daughter are still alive.

It was only natural that Into the Spider-Verse would get a sequel, and indeed it's getting two. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to premiere in theaters on June 2, 2023, followed by Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in March 2024. The film will see him re-team with Into the Spider-Verse's Gwen Stacy and a new crop of Spider-People in order to face off against a brand new villain. The Spider-People featured this time around include Issa Rae as Spider-Woman and Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, a humorless and destructive Spider-Man from the future.

On his official Twitter account, Miller shared an image of a poster given out as a gift to crew members of Across the Spider-Verse. The image, which replicates the experimental animation style of the franchise with a staggered color scheme implying intense action, shows Miles Morales squaring off against Spider-Man 2099 in mid-air. Although he did not reveal the name of the artist, closer inspection shows their signature in the bottom right of the design, as well as an indication that only 500 of the posters were made. Check out Miller's post below:

It will be interesting to see how much this design ties into the actual plot of the film. While it has been established that the villain of the film will be the Spot, Spider-Man 2099 may be a secondary antagonist for some or all of the film. However, even if they're on the same side, Marvel heroes have a tendency to resolve interpersonal clashes with their fists, so this doesn't necessarily mean the Spider-Men have any long-lasting animosity toward one another in the film.

Crew members will certainly want to keep this memento of their time on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The first film was renowned for its animation style, and Across the Spider-Verse is aiming to be even more ambitious with regard to story and technical filmmaking. The poster serves as a reminder of all the hard work that went into crafting the film, which will hopefully pay off with another success when Across the Spider-Verse releases next summer. Considering how cool the poster design is, audiences will likely be jealous they can't get one of their own. But perhaps official Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse posters for sale will implement a similar design.
