Spider-Man: No Way Home brought major changes to Spider-Man’s arc, and Spider-Man 4 will finally fix the worst change the Marvel Cinematic Universe made to the character. As one of the most popular and beloved characters from Marvel Comics, Spider-Man was one of the characters the audience wanted to see joining the MCU, and after a long wait, the deal between Sony and Marvel finally made it possible, and so the web-slinger made his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War, where he was recruited by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) to join his side of the battle.

After that, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) starred in his first solo movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, before joining the rest of the MCU’s heroes in the biggest battles this universe has seen so far: Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Spider-Man closed the Infinity Saga with Spider-Man: Far From Home, which was also a major shake-up for him as Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealed Spidey’s identity to the whole world. This led Peter to seek Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help in Spider-Man: No Way Home, asking him to cast a spell that would make everyone forget he’s Spider-Man, but the spell was botched and instead caused major chaos in the multiverse by bringing villains from past Spider-Man movies (as well as Spider-Man variants) into the MCU.

Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with Doctor Strange casting a spell that made the world forget Peter Parker, leaving the young man all alone and starting a new life without those closest to him. This is a fresh start for Spider-Man that will finally fix the biggest change the MCU made to the character as it’s finally letting him be a street-level hero, as he should have been from the beginning.

What Spider-Man Being A Street-Level Hero Means For The MCU

During Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Kevin Feige revealed the full Phase 4 and 5 slates and three movies from Phase 6, but one of the biggest names missing in the MCU’s plans is Spider-Man. The web-slinger is getting a new trilogy that will continue his story now that he’s starting over again, and while he doesn’t have a place in the upcoming phases of the Multiverse Saga, Kevin Feige has confirmed he's still part of it. Speaking to MTV News after Marvel’s Hall H panel, Feige revealed that the MCU is now divided into different parts, one of those being the “street-level” with Spider-Man and Daredevil (Charlie Cox), as the latter’s inclusion in the MCU had just been announced. This is great news for fans of Spider-Man as it means that the character will go back to its roots as a street-level hero, as the MCU skipped that part of his story and went straight into making Spider-Man an Avenger and an international hero.

The MCU opted not to tell Spider-Man’s origin story and instead introduced the character when he was already fighting crime in Queens, though it didn’t take time to explore that either. Spider-Man was immediately pulled into major action by joining Team Iron Man in Civil War and was later given major threats in Homecoming and Far From Home, not to mention him joining the Avengers in Infinity War and Endgame in order to defeat Thanos. The MCU turned Spider-Man into Iron Man’s mentee and even an Iron Man 2.0, making him dependent on Stark and having him live in his shadow for a long time. With No Way Home leaving him all alone and starting all over again, viewers will finally see Spider-Man as the street-level hero he should have been from the beginning, and this will finally allow him to be himself and stop living in Iron Man’s shadow.
