Predicting when the MCU's Spider-Man 4 will be released is far from straightforward. After two solo franchises, Sony decided to join forces with Marvel Studios in 2015 to reboot Spider-Man as part of the MCU. It was this landmark deal that resulted in Tom Holland taking over the iconic role and debuting in Captain America: Civil War. Spider-Man's importance to the MCU has skyrocketed in the years since then, as he's made five appearances overall - and that's before Spider-Man: No Way Home is released. However, despite this successful history, the future remains uncertain.

Even though it was previously confirmed Tom Holland's Spider-Man would appear in another MCU film after Spider-Man: No Way Home, his future looks brighter than ever. Sony and Marvel are reportedly planning to make Spider-Man 45, and 6 in the MCU. Although word of this new trilogy came directly from franchise producer Amy Pascal, details on what the new films will contain have yet to be revealed. Spider-Man 4 and the subsequent sequels do not currently have writers, a director, or story details. The movies also do not have release dates, making it unclear how they fit into Sony's growingly ambitious plans for the appropriately titled Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

So what could the MCU's Spider-Man 4 release date be? Sony currently has officially announced release dates for four upcoming Marvel movies: Morbius in January 2022, Kraven the Hunter in January 2023, an untitled Marvel movie in July 2023, and another untitled Marvel movie in October 2023. News of Spider-Man 45, and 6 being in development could lead some to wonder if the first film in the new trilogy could occupy one of the open 2023 dates. Spider-Man 4 coming out in July 2023 would allow Sony to stick to its recent plan of releasing a new Tom Holland Spider-Man movie every other year. However, there are a few reasons to believe Spider-Man 4's better release date option is a 2024 debut.

Tom Holland as Spider-Man in No Way Home

Due to the various Spider-Man-related movies Sony is developing, the mystery 2023 dates could easily be filled by projects like Spider-Woman and Venom 3. This would also give Spider-Man 4 a bit more time to go through development, which is important if it is meant to start a new trilogy. It's also important to note that Spider-Man 4 and this new trilogy will likely happen with a new creative team. Director Jon Watts is moving on to Fantastic 4 and some non-MCU projects after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel and Sony will need to spend time finding the right creative minds to help craft Spider-Man's next trilogy, so waiting until 2024 gives them some extra time to not rush.

Overall, Spider-Man 4 getting a 2024 release date wouldn't really be that much longer of a wait than audiences have grown accustomed to. Thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home's December 2021 release, a late 2024 release for the fourth film would be three years later. That is typically the length Marvel takes to make a sequel, if not longer. Spider-Man 4's release date would also likely bring the franchise back to the summer season, a July 2024 launch would mean the gap between it and Spider-Man: No Way Home is only two and a half years. This is realistically the earliest the sequel will arrive.

If Marvel and Sony take a bit longer to develop Tom Holland's record-breaking trilogy and agree to deals with the stars to return, there is a chance that the wait could extend into 2025. Since Pascal and Holland are already discussing this bright future, it appears to be moving along quite well so far, which should help Spider-Man 4 make a 2024 release date. Whenever the movie arrives, however, it's clear that there will be no shortage of on-screen Spider-Man action for audiences to enjoy.
