The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man 4 gets a positive update from Sony as the movie's development continues. Spider-Man: No Way Home marked the end of Sony and Marvel Studios' first Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland. The multiverse movie broke box office records upon its release last December, which was good news after producer Amy Pascal previously revealed plans for another trilogy were already underway. Marvel and Sony have not provided any official updates on Spider-Man 4 during the last year, other than both studios reiterating their intention to continue the franchise.

The wait for the MCU's Spider-Man 4 movie starring Tom Holland has left fans wondering how Spider-Man fits into the Multiverse Saga. The movie has now received what can be perceived as a positive update thanks to Sony's chairman Tom Rothman. During a recent profile with THR, Rothman addressed the status of the next live-action Spider-Man movie - which will be the MCU's Spider-Man 4. He assured that the movie is very much coming, as he said, "You bet," in response to the film being a no-brainer to make. As for when audiences will see Spider-Man 4, Rothman is more uncertain about that saying, "When you can expect it, I don’t know. Serve no wine before it’s time."

Everything We Know About Sony's Next MCU Spider-Man Movie

Tom Holland as Spider-Man in No Way Home

It has been over a year since plans for Spider-Man 4, 5, and 6 from Marvel Studios and Sony were first teased. Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending sets up the possibility for the new film to be very different from the massive blockbusters audiences have seen recently. Everyone forgetting about Peter Parker and the losses he endures leave him alone and broke in New York with a new suit. With Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) and MJ (Zendaya) going away to MIT, they are not guaranteed to be part of Spider-Man 4 - unless the film leaves New York behind to become set in Boston.

So far, no one is officially attached to the MCU's Spider-Man 4 movie. Director Jon Watts is reportedly expected to come back, especially after leaving Fantastic 4, while Tom Holland securing a new, lucrative deal to play Peter Parker again is highly likely. Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna could return to write the script after doing so on the previous three MCU Spider-Man films. However, the lack of details about Spider-Man 4 also leaves room for a new creative team to come in and reshape the franchise as Peter Parker begins college and starts a new life for himself.

When MCU Spider-Man 4 Could Release In Theaters

MCU Spider-Man 4 Release Date Prediction SR

As indicated by Tom Rothman's response, the MCU's Spider-Man 4 release date has not been determined. Sony has previously operated under a schedule that made a new entry arrive every other year. That is poised to change with Spider-Man 4, as there is no way it is ready to hit theaters by the end of 2023. Instead, a summer 2024 release is the earliest the movie could possibly be ready. The most realistic release date scenario for the MCU's Spider-Man 4 could be late 2024 or summer 2025, allowing it to play a big role in the lead-up to or the aftermath of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
