Tom Holland is ready to take a break from acting once he wraps Spider-Man: No Way Home. After netting some credits at the start of the 2010s, Holland rose to stardom when he was cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He debuted as the character in 2016's Captain America: Civil War and has gone on to reprise the role five more times - appearing in two Avengers films and headlining his own solo Spider-Man trilogy. Marvel has consisted of a majority of his titles the past handful of years, but Holland's kept busy between MCU installments.

In addition to Spider-Man, Holland's balanced out his filmography with smaller dramas (The Devil All the Time, Cherry), voiceover roles (Dolittle, Onward), and other genre movies (Chaos Walking, Uncharted). This past year saw Holland jump right from Uncharted to Spider-Man: No Way Home after the former wrapped principal photography. There's no denying the actor's been working hard of late, and he's ready for some time off in the near future.

Speaking with USA Today, Holland was asked about his plans after Spider-Man 3 is complete. As he takes his much-deserved break, Holland could be taking up skiing as a new hobby:

I’m going to take a break. I’m gonna go home and just enjoy some time. It’s the first time since I signed on for Spider-Man 1 I don’t have a contract with someone. I think I might go skiing. Because that’s something I’ve not really been allowed to do, because I’ve had to stay fit and healthy and ready to work. So I think I might try and go skiing somewhere. I dunno. I’m just going to go home and see where the wind takes me.

Holland quickly became a favorite amongst viewers thanks to his genuine enthusiasm and boyish charm, so it will be sad to see him step away for a while. However, taking a brief hiatus is ultimately for the best, as it'll give Holland an opportunity to recharge his batteries before he returns to the big screen. As he says, he's currently not under contract for any upcoming projects, so he's going to take advantage of that. As much as audiences love to watch him, nobody wants to see Holland get burned out. And it's not as if Holland is retiring; he's game to make as many Spider-Man movies as Marvel wants, and he's also lined up to appear in another MCU crossover movie as part of Disney and Sony's current deal. Moviegoers will be seeing plenty of the actor over the next few years.

In some ways, Holland's break is coming at the perfect time. Spider-Man: No Way Home feels as if it's the end of one phase of his career, concluding a trilogy and journey that started several years ago. It will be interesting to see what Holland does in his next chapter when he returns from break. Recently, he's started to show a different side to his range, most notably in Cherry and The Devil All the Time. Perhaps he'll use his time off to find similar, more dramatic projects to take on and establish himself as a well-rounded performer. Of course, it also remains to be seen what Marvel plans to do with Spider-Man moving forward. Holland is one of the faces of the MCU, and the Disney/Sony partnership has been fruitful. It wouldn't be surprising to see the two studios continue to work together.
