The fake Spider-Man 3 title, Spider-Man: Phone Home, gets a fan-made poster referencing the classic sci-fi film, E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial. This comes at the same time that the first official images for Spider-Man 3 were revealed. The still-untitled solo Spider-Man movie will be the third starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon after Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

After previously failing to agree on a new deal for sharing the wall-crawling superhero, Sony and Disney announced in September of 2019 that this movie would be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Sony-Marvel Studios collaboration began filming a few months ago and since an official title has yet to be released, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon took to Instagram to announce some fake Spider-Man “home” titles along with the first-look Spider-Man 3 photos. The other phony titles include Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker and Spider-Man: Home Slice.

Perhaps the most believable of the three fake titles, Spider-Man: Phone Home quickly received some fan art online. The title is also is a reference to Steven Spielberg’s classic 1982 science fiction film E.T. that tells the story of a young boy befriending an extra-terrestrial being. Posted on Twitter by user BossLogic, the fan-made Spider-Man poster pays homage to an iconic poster for Spielberg’s film showing Elliot and E.T. touching fingers, which originally intimates Michelangelo's famous painting “The Creation of Adam.” Check out the multilayered fan art below:

Since filming for Spider-Man 3 began, there has been an influx of speculation regarding Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield’s involvement, and whether or not they will reprise their roles from previous non-MCU Spider-Man movies. If true, this would essentially create a multiverse, which is rumored to be an important part of the film’s plot. Perhaps the numerous different fake titles hint at the inclusion of a multiverse in the movie. On that note, it has been confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will appear in the threequel.

Since these fake titles posted on Instagram were accompanied by professional-looking art, it was likely a creative promotional campaign on the part of Marvel Studios and Sony, and not the cast going rogue online. So if the cast’s fake titles on social media mean anything, it likely means that the actual title will be revealed soon. Considering the official images that were just released as well, expect an official title reveal, along with some Spider-Man 3 plot details, to drop soon.
