Tom Holland will start filming Spider-Man 3 right after Uncharted wraps principal photography. Both projects starring the young actor have been affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic; Uncharted was forced to shut down literally on the first day of shooting back in the spring. After having their release dates shuffled around, the two blockbusters are slated to come out next year, with Uncharted hitting theaters in July 2021 and Spider-Man 3 in December 2021. As a result, Holland's had a busy 2020.

Holland is currently working on Uncharted alongside Mark Wahlberg, while at the same time Sony is gearing up to start production on Spider-Man 3. Recent Spider-Man 3 set photos revealed shooting is underway, but the general assumption was it was mainly for the necessary New York City establishing shots and the principal cast wasn't involved yet. With the timelines of the two tentpoles running so close together, it became clear Holland wouldn't have much (if any) time off between them, and it turns out that's exactly the case.

While appearing in a Patreon video with his father, Dominic (hat tip ComicBook), Holland confirmed the plan is for him to jump right to Spider-Man 3 when he's wrapped on Uncharted. The two discussed the younger Holland's travel plans, which will see him to go Spain and Atlanta:

Tom Holland: "It's nice that we got to play actually because once we go to Spain and Atlanta, I won't get to see you."

Dominic Holland: "No, that's why Nicky [Nicola Frost] said 'Listen Dom, hop on a plane because you won't see Tom until March.' Hopefully, you can come back at Christmas."

Uncharted Tom Holland

It's unknown how much more of Uncharted Holland has left, but it's reasonable to assume he'll be moving on to Spider-Man 3 in the very near future. Spider-Man 3 has been rounding out its supporting cast, with Jamie Foxx's Electro and Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange two high-profile additions. Plus, it's been reported the first look at Spider-Man 3 will be released in December, indicating Jon Watts and company will be rolling the cameras soon. Fortunately, Sony is the studio behind Uncharted and Spider-Man 3, so they likely ironed out the projects' respective shooting schedules so there was minimal overlap. Since Uncharted is scheduled to hit theaters first, that became the bigger priority to complete first.

Under normal circumstances, Holland likely would have had at least a little time off between two massive blockbusters, especially since these will be physically-demanding movies heavy on action set pieces. However, the pandemic threw all of Hollywood into a state of flux, and everyone involved is trying to make the best they can of an unprecedented situation. The good news is Uncharted (which has been filming since July) hasn't encountered any COVID-related setbacks, so Sony seems to have good health & safety protocols in place. Hopefully shooting on Spider-Man 3 goes smoothly as well, and then Holland can get a well-deserved break at some point.
