The surprising reveal about Jamie Foxx’s Electro appearing in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 gives credence to the rumor surrounding Evan Peters’ Quicksilver and WandaVision. Months ago, it was reported that Evan Peters, who had played the mutant speedster in Fox’s X-Men movies, had been cast in the upcoming Disney+ series, WandaVision. This led to rumors that Peters was somehow reprising his Quicksilver role in the MCU.

The rumor draws comparisons to what’s currently happening with classic Spider-Man villain, Electro. Prior to Marvel bringing Spider-Man to the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker battled Jamie Foxx’s Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Recently, it was reported that Foxx’s Electro will be making a return to the big screen through Spider-Man 3, even though The Amazing Spider-Man movies aren’t in-canon with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Electro will become the second character from one of Sony’s two Spider-Man franchises to be played by the same actor in an MCU movie, the first being J.K. Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson in a Spider-Man: Far from Home post-credits scene.

Jamie Foxx’s character being in Spider-Man 3 is a sign that Marvel may be making other movies canon in the MCU. The prevailing theory about how this will work is that Marvel will establish that the events that take place in these movies exist in other timelines in Marvel’s multiverse. The possibility of this happening when Doctor Strange 2 builds on the concept of the multiverse has already been raised, but there was no proof that it would happen. The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Electro meeting Tom Holland’s character in Spider-Man 3, however, strengthens that theory by a great degree and makes it seem like the Quicksilver rumor could actually be true.

X-Men Dark Phoenix Trailer Evan Peters As Quicksilver

Marvel already had its own Quicksilver in the form of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Pietro Maximoff, but he was killed off in his first and only movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Many have hoped that because WandaVision centers on his sister and presumably her reality-warping abilities, the show would be his best chance at returning. It could be that Marvel will indeed use Quicksilver again, but not the version that Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) knows. Evan Peters’ Quicksilver went over well with fans, and he could be an interesting addition to the MCU if Marvel can make him fit into their world.

Even though Evan Peters is supposedly in WandaVision and his take on Quicksilver remains popular with audiences, the idea of them bringing that character to the MCU and effectively making Fox’s X-Men movies canon felt like a long-shot at best. But if Marvel is doing the same thing with The Amazing Spider-Man movies in Spider-Man 3 then the possibility of them pulling that off with Fox’s Quicksilver doesn’t seem like such a stretch anymore. If Scarlet Witch somehow uses her powers or her magic to open a door to a different dimension, she could meet a different version of her brother. Depending on how this encounter plays out, Marvel could have a new Quicksilver going forward.
