A new piece of Spider-Man: No Way Home fan art imagines Matt Murdock defending Peter Parker who's being charged for the death of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Like Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, Charlie Cox has long been rumored to appear in the upcoming Marvel Studios and Sony collaboration project. The third solo film for Tom Holland's version of the web-slinging hero, the much-anticipated blockbuster directed by Jon Watts is scheduled to hit theaters in December. Despite its nearing release, Spider-Man: No Way Home has yet to kick off its proper marketing campaign, with audiences left to speculate based on previous reports about its story.

Persistent rumors claim that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be a live-action version of the SpiderVerse narrative. Both Marvel Studios and Sony are mum on this, but there's mounting evidence that this might be the case. Official merchandise for the movie implies Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) could be heavily involved, not to mention Alfred Molina, who has confirmed he will reprise his role as Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2. More recently, the ending of the Loki show officially created the multiverse, with various branches of time already overlapping each other, which could explain the threequel's presumed story. However, before all of this, Spider-Man: Far From Home set up a very different adventure for the wall-crawling hero.

In the mid-credits scene of the 2019 movie, Mysterio not only revealed Spider-Man's real identity but also framed him for his death. Without Iron Man to help him, Peter may have to fend for himself in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Combining this potential story arc with rumors of the movie's multiversal story, new fan art shared on Reddit by u/Lopsided-Associate60 envisions Murdock representing the young hero in court. While the Marvel/Netflix shows, including Daredevil, were initially believed to be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it became increasingly clear in the years leading to their cancellations that was not the case. The shows regularly referenced the bigger events from the franchise, but their movie counterparts never acknowledged the existence of Daredevil and his fellow Defenders. Now that the multiverse has officially been established, Marvel Studios can bring in some elements and characters from previously separated universes and incorporate them in its upcoming storytelling. As arguably the stand-out in the Marvel/Netflix line-up, it makes sense that Cox's Murdock may find his way into the MCU. However, he may not even have the chance to suit up as Daredevil, instead only functioning as Peter's lawyer as he potentially goes to trial.

Given that there are only about five months to go before Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters, Marvel Studios and Sony will hopefully drop the first look at the movie sooner rather than later. Only then will it be a bit clearer how its story will go. Don't expect it, however, to reveal right away that multiversal characters such as the other Spider-Men and Murdock will be in the film. In the meantime, fan art provides a fun look at what audiences might see if that does come to pass in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
