Production has wrapped on Spider-Man: Far From Home - but just what secrets have been revealed through set photos? The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will reportedly see Peter Parker and his friends head off on a summer vacation. As a result, Marvel has conducted principal photography across Europe, notably in both London and Venice.

The film is believed to be set "minutes after" the events of Avengers 4, and will introduce viewers to the post-Phase 3 MCU. This time around, the major MCU cameos are by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, leading to speculation that Peter Parker isn't working with the Avengers any more - he's working with what seems to be a rejuvenated S.H.I.E.L.D..

But now that principal photography is complete, it's an ideal time to take a step back and look at the set photos and videos that have emerged. Just what have they revealed about the film that will launch the fourth phase of the MCU?

Finally, Spider-Man Is Web-Swinging

After no less than 5 MCU movies, Tom Holland's Spider-Man will finally be a web-slinger. One set video from Spider-Man: Far From Home clearly shows Spider-Man going for a swing through the streets of New York, and he looks far more competent than we've ever seen before in the MCU. The MCU's version of Spider-Man has had something of a learning curve when it comes to web-slinging, constantly getting it wrong in Spider-Man: Homecoming - even not noticing when he'd run out of buildings to swing on. It's great to see that he'll have grown in confidence and skill by the sequel.

Classic Comic Book Relationships

Naturally, a number of set photos have given us an idea of Peter Parker's private life in the MCU. One shows Tom Holland's Peter Parker and Marisa Tomei's Aunt May reunite at an airport. The scene was filmed at London Stanstead airport, but it was reportedly made to look like the airport from Newark. If this is the case, then it could be Peter returning home after his summer vacation.

Quite a few set photos have shown Holland acting against Zendaya's MJ, suggesting she'll be a major character in Spider-Man: Far From Home. One of the most exciting set videos showed Spider-Man picking MJ up for a rather intimate web-swing - although it started off with his arm wrapped around MJ, by the time they landed she had her legs around his waist. It's led to speculation that romance could bloom between Spider-Man and MJ - but, knowing Spider-Man's luck, it could quite easily be the case that she has a thing for the wall-crawler, and not for Peter Parker. There's certainly comic book precedent for poor Peter to wind up competing with Spider-Man for a girl's affections.

Love may in the air for Jacob Batalon's Ned Leeds and Angourie Rice's Betty Brant, too; one set photo revealed the pair holding hands. The two wound up married in the comics.

Two New Costumes For Spider-Man

There have long been reports that Peter Parker would gain a new costume in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but actually it seems he'll get two. One is a beautifully sleek black and red outfit, reminiscent of the Superior Spider-Man design from the comics. Whether it is Superior Spider-Man or some inspiration from Alex Ross' designs, the new suit's capabilities are not yet clear. The web shooters have gone from outside the suit to now being built in. And the details on the fabric are absolutely stunning, giving a sense of just how much work the costume designers have put into this.

There's also some sort of stealth suit, a new uniform that has generated a lot of attention. It appears to be a mash-up between three different designs from the comics; Spider-Man Noir, a shadowy alt-universe version of Spider-Man; Secret War, a suit given to Spider-Man by S.H.I.E.L.D.; and one he wore in an event called "To The Ends of the Earth." That third uniform was a powerful one, with a lot of bells and whistle installed to allow Spider-Man to take on the Sinister Six. There's speculation that Spider-Man will be given this stealth suit by S.H.I.E.L.D. (or whatever organization Nick Fury is working for these days). The set photos even clearly display a gap where a logo could be, although it's not possible to discern whether one is there, let alone what it is.

Page 2 of 2: Nick Fury and Mysterio

Nick Fury and Maria Hill

Nick Fury and Maria Hill finally returned to the MCU in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, where it was revealed they were working for a mysterious organization that has apparently picked up S.H.I.E.L.D.'s mandate. It looks as though the aftermath of Avengers 4 will see the two characters become major figures in the MCU again, with Peter Parker working with them in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

It's unclear what dynamic we can expect between Nick Fury and Spider-Man; in some animations (and, indeed, in the Ultimate Comics) he's served as a mentor to the wall-crawler. Certainly the two team up, though, and the most exciting set of photos show them both in Venice. Nick Fury is driving a boat with Spider-Man on board. There's absolutely no context for the scene, so we'll presumably have to wait for interviews (or a trailer) for more information.

Meet Mysterio, the Villain of Spider-Man: Far From Home

Jake Gyllenhaal Mysterio SR

A number of set photos have shown Jake Gyllenhaal - or his stunt double - performing as Mysterio. The best images confirmed the violet/burgundy cape of the character and the detailed green armor similar to the color palette of his suit in the pages of the comic books. A number of Marvel fans have pointed out that the design is vaguely reminiscent of concept art for 2011's Thor, and have suggested that Mysterio appropriates Asgardian or Dark Elf technology; however, at this stage that's just a theory.

Curiously enough, though, there's one major departure from the comics; Mysterio appears to lack his distinctive fishbowl helmet. There are three potential reasons why Mysterio's look could have changed. The first is that the helmet could be added at a later date, through CGI; if so, though, it raises the question of why several of these scenes showed the stunt double made up with fake facial hair to correspond with Gyllenhaal. Why would Marvel bother with that if they were simply going to edit a fishbowl over his face anyway? Secondly, it could be that Mysterio isn't wearing the helmet in the particular scenes that have leaked - we've only really had a handful of set photos of him, after all. Alternatively, it's possible that the MCU's Mysterio will be heavily influenced by the Ultimate Comics version of Mysterio, where artist David Lafuente liberally redesigned the villain.

Rumors Of Hydro-Man

In August 2018, Tom Holland posted a set video that showed his stunt double performing some kind of water stunt on the Venice set. In the video, a massive wave blasts his stunt double off his feet. It immediately led to rumors that Spider-Man could be taking on another villain - Morris Bench, a.k.a. Hydro-Man. In the comics, Morris Bench was a crewman on the cargo ship U.S.S. Bulldog who was accidentally knocked overseas by Spider-Man (the wall-crawler was battling Namor at the time). Bench was exposed to a powerful experimental generator while in the sea, and his body was transformed into a form of living water.

It would make sense for Spider-Man: Far From Home to introduce Hydro-Man, another key member of the Sinister Six. It's generally believed the MCU is adding so many villains to the MCU at speed for a reason, with the bad guys expected to team up against the wall-crawler in the third Spider-Man movie. However, it has to be said that this is pretty weak evidence that Hydro-Man will appear in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. After all, Mysterio is a stunt magician, and he could quite easily do a few water tricks - especially in Venice.

J.B. Smoove's Character Revealed?

JB Smoove in Almost Christmas smiling.

Who is J.B. Smoove playing in Spider-Man: Far From Home? There have been rumors that he's actually J. Jonah Jameson, but the truth seems far more prosaic. One batch of set photos has suggested he's one of Peter Parker's teachers, looking after the kids on their field trip and summer vacation.

The Return of Happy Hogan

One set video apparently shows Jon Favreau reprising the role of Happy Hogan. The video is taken from a distance, but the other person talking to Fury and Hill matches Happy's build and traditional black tie look. Needless to say, this has only increased speculation that Tony Stark won't survive the events of Avengers 4.
