Caught in the heat of battle by the Sin-Eater, the scale of Spider-Woman/Jessica Drew's internal conflict is revealed for readers. While Drew has since left her villainous days behind her in order to embrace a more heroic way of life, Spider-Woman will never truly escape the interpersonal demons which haunt her on a daily basis.

Street-level sociopath Stanley Carter a.k.a. the Sin-Eater is revived from death itself in the tie in issue to Last Remains, The Amazing Spider-Man #54.1 by writers Nick Spencer (Superior Foes of Spider-Man) & Matthew Rosenberg (U.S. Agent) along with artists Federico Vicentini (Falcon & Winter Soldier) and Takeshi Miyazawa (Ghost-Spider). But it is not a powerless Stanley Carter interpenetration of Sin-Eater this time around, but instead, a Stanely powered by the vicious Devourer of Totems Morlun. Sin-Eater is not only armed with Morlun's skills and an enchanted double-barrel shotgun but a proclivity to "absorb the power of the people he cleanses". Sin-Eater directs his attention to a host of Spider-Man's loyal spider-based followers from throughout the years, from Madame Web, Miles Morales, and Jessica Drew. Attempting to land an attack on the villain, Spider-Woman is met with a brutal counter which has the newly powered Sin-Eater coming face to face with many of the sins under Jessica's belt.

The massive burden of Drew's sins combined with the sins of the other Spider-Friends proves too excessive of a strain for the Sin-Eater, causing the villain to effectively off himself with his own shotgun.

Jessica Drew having a somewhat ominous backstory should not come as an immediate shock to longtime fans of Marvel Comics, who have followed Jessica's character trajectory for years. Spider-Woman did not begin her fabled comics career as a superhero, but as a brainwashed member of the Nazi originated terrorist organization Hydra. When Jessica eventually regained control of her own personality, the formerly misguided Spider-Woman would defect to the good side indefinitely as a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers. While not entirely her fault, Jessica's character was called into question once again when the Skrull Queen Veranke would use the Spider-Woman persona to gain the trust of her fellow teammates and covertly stage an invasion of Earth. This Skrull "secret invasion" would result in the brief death of founding Avenger Janet Van Dyne/The Wasp, while Spider-Man's archenemy Norman Osborn eliminates Veranke and ascends to the leader of The Avengers.

However, with Sin-Eater's declaration that Jessica's sins burn the brightest of her companions, there may have been more to Jessica than even readers are currently aware of. There is a solid amount of time before the Hydra faithful Spider-Woman would shift allegiances, leaving an unexplored passage of time ripe for storytelling potential.
