Spider-Man Producer Plays Coy About Future Team-Up With Venom

Spider-Man: Far From Home producer Amy Pascal plays coy about the possibility of Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Tom Hardy's Venom appearing in the same movie. Sony has held the theatrical rights to Spider-Man and his corner of the Marvel universe for two decades. After two standalone franchises that fell apart before bigger plans could emerge, the studio is now in the middle of orchestrating three separate Spider-Man related universes.

Even though it is their animated venture with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse that netted the studio an Oscar, they are also extremely pleased with the success of their live-action properties. Holland's Spider-Man is the lead of his own franchise that now exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to a deal with Marvel Studios, and Spider-Man: Far From Home is positioned to be a wildly successful second entry. Meanwhile, Sony had one of 2018's biggest box office surprises with Venom earning over $800 million worldwide.

With the shared success of Holland's Spider-Man franchise and Hardy's Venom, many fans have been left wondering if or when the two will have a crossover. In a new interview with Fandango, Amy Pascal - who produces both franchises - was asked what the chances are that the two Spider-Man characters will meet. She initially said, "Everybody would love to see that. You never know. Someday... it might happen." When pressed about the team-up again, Pascal shared her plans to keep Holland busy, regardless of a Venom crossover. She added:

"We have big plans for Tom Holland to be a part of everything... Every movie we ever do! [Laughs] He needs to be in every movie that I ever work on!"

The possibility of Spider-Man and Venom crossing over is something that has been theorized for a while now. Rumors initially circulated that Holland shot a cameo as Peter Parker for Venom, but that never materialized on the screen. Everyone involved with the franchises has maintained a stance that a team-up between the two could happen, with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige just recently stating how he believes it is likely.

If Holland and Hardy do meet on screen as Spider-Man and Venom, then it will be fascinating to see under what circumstances it is done. Theoretically, Venom could exist in the larger MCU multiverse so that Holland could appear as a different version of Peter Parker in a sequel. There is also the chance that Venom could already be part of the MCU (or be retconned into it) so that Hardy's version of the character could factor into the current Spider-Man story and the MCU's future. At this point, though, there is no telling when such a crossover will happen, or if it will. So, don't expect to see Hardy's Venom pop up in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
