Tom Holland donned some provocative women's lingerie and fishnet stockings to perform the Rihanna hit "Umbrella" as he took on his Spider-Man: Homecoming star Zendaya in a special Lip Sync Battle Sunday on MTV. Now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 officially kicked off the summer moviegoing season over the weekend, the stars of this summer's blockbuster hopefuls are starting to surface to ramp up anticipation for their films with high profile appearances.

Wonder Woman star Chris Pine, for example, hosted Saturday Night Live (and mocked other superhero film stars named Chris in the process), while other stars like Mark Wahlberg debuted a new clip from Transformers: The Last Knight at the MTV Movie & TV Awards Sunday night. But perhaps no star showed no greater level of commitment to promote his film than Holland prior to the MTV awards celebration, who started off his lip sync battle against Zendaya in a relatively conservative manner.

Holland started off his performance by dressing like and miming film legend Gene Kelly in his signature performance in Singin' in the Rain, before he disappeared for a brief costume change to pull out his lip-syncing rendition of Rihanna's "Umbrella". Zendaya, who performed Bruno Mars'in the competition, wigged out with laughter has she watched the black wig-wearing Holland perform Rihanna with a group of similarly under-dressed dancers. Twitter user Peter Parker posted the clip, which you can watch above.

Tom Holland as Spider-Man in Spider-Man Homecoming

Apart from Holland and Zendaya's presence, Lip Sync Battle had a definite Spider-Man vibe going for it Sunday night, thanks to show host Chrissy Teigen and her husband, singer John Legend. The duo recreated the famous upside-down kiss from director Sam Raimi's 2001 blockbuster Spider-Man. In the bit, Teigen dressed up as the webslinger and was lowered from the ceiling upside down to Legend, who peeled back her Spidey mask to plant a kiss, a la Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

As cool as that retro-flavored Spidey kiss was, Holland was no doubt the biggest winner on Lip Sync Battle with his risque performance, which ended with the actor and his fellow dancers getting drenched in rain. And while fans will have to wait until July 7 to see if they want to shower Holland with praise as Peter Parker/Spider-Man (the odds are definitely in his favor, following his enthusiastic introduction in Captain America: Civil War), there's no question that he makes a huge splash when it comes to promoting his movies.
