Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is officially a Golden Globes winner as the Best Animated Feature. Sony pumped out another Spider-Man movie in 2018, but Spider-Verse switched the formula up by putting Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) at the center. The film was written by Phil Lord, where he also produced with Chris Miller, and directed by the talented trio of Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti , and Rodney Rothman.

Not only is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse the first Spidey movie to feature Miles in any capacity, but it also is the first to be put in theaters as an animated movie. That alone would set Into the Spider-Verse apart, but the creative team created an entirely new animation style to truly make this film look unlike anything else that came before. The visual spectacle was infused with a great story that showed the true meaning of Spider-Man and has been a favorite of the year for many, putting it firmly in the awards conversation.

After receiving a nomination in late 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has officially won the Best Animated Feature award at this year's Golden Globes ceremony. The film beat out Incredibles 2Isle of DogsRalph Breaks the Internet, and Mirai in order to take this top spot. This marks just the third time in history that a non-Disney film has won the Best Animated award at the Golden Globes.

Since the Best Animated Feature has only been a category since 2006 at the Golden Globes, there isn't as rich of a history in this category as in others, but this is still a milestone achievement. With it being just the third non-Disney movie to win, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse joins the company of The Adventures of Tintin and How to Train Your Dragon 2 to take down the Mouse House. As a result, this marks Sony's first win in the category. In the larger picture, Into the Spider-Verse is the first superhero movie to win any of the film categories.

This is undoubtedly a major win for Sony and Into the Spider-Verse, but they are hoping that this will not be the last award they receive this awards season. Nominations for the same category at the Academy Awards have not yet been announced, but the movie is looked at as being a lock for a nomination at the least. That said, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's win here at the Golden Globes could give it an extra push towards taking home the Oscar in February. And, even if that doesn't happen, this is still a huge win for the movie.
