Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 producer Christopher Miller reveals the sequel's animation will be even more mind-blowing than the first installment. In 2018, Sony released their seventh Spider-Man film with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verseand what could've been another standard superhero pic became something far different. Into the Spider-Verse focused on Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), a young teen who, as expected, gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains special abilities as a result. While discovering his newfound powers, Miles comes into contact with other Spider-People with the same abilities from different realities. Into the Spider-Verse was praised for its unique Spider-Man story and incredible animation, which looked like a comic book had come to life.

Unsurprisingly, Sony was eager to greenlight a sequel. Into the Spider-Verse 2 is currently slated for release in October 2022 after being delayed by five months. It'll be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, and Moore will return as Miles. Specific plot details are still being kept under wraps, but it's certain that Into the Spider-Verse 2 will feature plenty of surprises and new Spider-People. Fans were thrilled to hear production began in early June, and they've continued to wait for new updates.

Miller's new comments are more of a tease than an update, though it'll still get fans excited. Miller hopped on Twitter to discuss the "groundbreaking art techniques" going into Into the Spider-Verse 2. Per Miller, these techniques are "already blowing me away," and they will even "make the first movie look quaint." Considering how brilliantly animated the first installment was, this is some really high praise.

The intricacy of the animation style requires a lengthy production process, which is why Into the Spider-Verse 2 won't arrive until almost four years after the first film. The long wait might be disappointing to some, but it sounds like it'll all be worth it. In the meantime, fans can speculate about what Into the Spider-Verse 2 will be about and which new characters it can include. So far, it sounds like the Japanese Spider-Man is a strong contender.

As for the larger Spider-Verse, Sony continues to plot its live-action ventures with Morbius and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. At one point, it seemed like Sony was interested in exploring Spider-Verse spin-offs, one of which would feature Into the Spider-Verse's Gwen Stacey (Hailee Steinfeld). However, Steinfeld recently said she doesn't know if that project is still happening. Regardless of whether that ever comes to fruition, Into the Spider-Verse 2 is definitely happening, and it definitely sounds like it'll be epic. Fans just have to wait four years to see if it actually lives up to expectations.
