The Spider-Man PS4 game finally releases this September. Insomniac Games - the acclaimed video game developer behind titles such as Sunset Overdrive and Ratchet & Clank - has spent the past few years working on a brand new Spider-Man game exclusively for the PlayStation 4, in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Sony has built up a reputation over the years for having top-tier first-party titles, thanks to the development teams at internal studios such as Naughty Dog (Uncharted, The Last of Us) as well as partnerships with third-party developers like Insomniac Games (Resistance). That's why Marvel Games approached the publisher in 2014 to produce a new Marvel title on the same level of quality as Sony's past triple-A titles. And after looking at all the available properties, Insomniac chose to work on Spider-Man, which happens to be their first licensed property in almost two decades. The Spider-Man PS4 game was first announced at E3 2016, and after all this time, it's finally moving out of development and onto store shelves later this year.

This morning, the PlayStation Blog announced the release date for Marvel's Spider-Man PS4 game as part of their ongoing coverage of the new title. It releases on September 7, 2018. You can watch the announcement video in the space above.

A September release date shouldn't be too surprising as a Swedish retailer indicated earlier this year that the game would release in late September. While their release date wasn't correct, they were only a few weeks off as the game is now slated to hit store shelves earlier that month.

In addition to revealing the release date, the above announcement video also showed off some new gameplay as well as a Spidey Suit pre-order bonus pack, which includes three alternate costumes. At the moment, only one has been revealed: the Spider-Punk Suit. The second suit's reveal is "coming soon," while the third will be unveiled this July. It's possible that one of the other two suits is the Spider-Man: Homecoming costume, which may have been revealed in yesterday's Spider-Man teaser. Furthermore, a pre-order comes with a Spider-Drone Gadget, a Spider-Man PSN Avatar, a Spider-Man PS4 Theme, and five extra skill points.

This is only the first of several new video games coming from Marvel. The studio is looking to create a whole new series of top-quality titles to challenge the now-concluded Arkham series as well as any other superhero games in the pipeline. While Insomniac and Sony are busy working on Spider-Man, Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is working with Square Enix on an Avengers title, with Marvel Games also having a Guardians of the Galaxy game in the works. Those games are still quite a ways off. So, for now, gamers can look forward to playing Marvel's Spider-Man this September.
