The latest trailer from Insomniac's Spider-Man game focuses in on J. Jonah Jameson. Already confirmed to be a who's who of Spider-Man villains and allies, Jameson is the latest familiar face to make his presence known in the PlayStation 4 exclusive.

First introduced in 1963's The Amazing Spider-Man #1, John Jonah Jameson Jr. has crossed paths with both Peter Parker and Spider-Man on many occasions. Rising in popularity thanks to J.K. Simmons' comedic portrayal of Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, it just wouldn't be an open-world Spider-Man game without the hot-headed editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle making an appearance somewhere.

Although players don't get a look at J. Jonah Jameson in the latest Spider-Man trailer, released by IGN, the no-nonsense journalist narrates as the wall-crawling hero swings his way across the New York skyline. Jameson's talk show is called Just the Facts and his first caller is none other than Peter Parker himself. In typical Jameson fashion, he's heard butting heads over the city's stance on Spider-Man and thinks that the friendly neighbourhood hero is nothing more than a masked menace.

Eagle-eyed gamers will spot several familiar locations in the backdrop of New York City and may notice the already confirmed Avengers Tower and Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum. Cleverly, the Jameson trailer shows off more of the game's mechanics as Spider-Man backflips through the air and runs up the side of buildings. Although Jameson may not be a huge part of the expansive title, it's reassurance that the fan-favorite character is out there somewhere.

This isn't Jameson's first appearance in a Spider-Man video game and the character has popped up in everything from 2000's Spider-Man to Lego Marvel Super Heroes. That being said, fans can expect a completely different version of the hot-headed journalist in this latest outing. Keeping with Spider-Man's reinvention of the franchise's iconic characters, the new iteration of Jameson appears to be more like a radio reporter/podcast enthusiast than a print editor.

While the previous trailers and gameplay footage honed in on the villains of Spider-Man and set up of a possible Sinister Six storyline, other characters like Miles Morales, Mary Jane Watson, and now Jameson are set to join the campaign. Alongside Peter Parker, MJ is the only other character confirmed to be playable in the game. With Watson taking on the role of an investigative journalist, Jameson's part in the open-world adventure could be to assign MJ her missions. Ultimately, gamers will have to wait just a little longer until Spider-Man releases on September 7.
