Warning: this post contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home

Two different Spider-Women were subtly referenced during Spider-Man: No Way HomeAlthough Spider-Man: No Way Home had many characters and plot points to juggle, the final installment in the first MCU Spider-Man trilogy found space for many Spidey-related easter eggs and references, which included a Miles Morales set-up and nods to the Amazing Spider-Man movies and Sam Raimi's trilogy. Most of the easter eggs in Spider-Man: No Way Home serve as bookends to nearly two decades of Marvel movies, but some of them also tease what's in store for the MCU in Phase 4 and beyond.

There are various routes Spider-Man's movie future can take. The most likely possibility is that Tom Holland's Peter Parker stays in the MCU proper, taking on adventures where, despite having lost Tony Stark's fancy gear and everyone he loved, he triumphs by sheer wit and willpower instead of technology or alliances. Spider-Man could also choose to forge new relationships with new MCU heroes, paving the way for new team-ups with Daredevil and the Fantastic Four. Eventually, Peter Parker could travel to Sony's Spider-Man Universe, where he would meet Tom Hardy's Venom, Jared Leto's Morbius, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kraven the Hunter.

Another Sony-owned Spider-Man character Tom Holland's Peter Parker could cross paths with in the future is Spider-Woman. Back in 2020, Olivia Wilde was said to be working on a female-led Spider-Man movie, which was speculated to be centered on Jessica Drew. No major updates have surfaced ever since, but Spider-Man: No Way Home included the first MCU tease at Spider-Woman's movie introduction when MJ and Peter Parker talked about the rumors of Spider-Man being able to seduce people with pheromones. In the comics, this is one of Spider-Woman's original abilities, along with bio-electrical shockwaves she calls "venom blasts". While this Easter egg could be dismissed as a throw-away remark, there are other clues throughout No Way Home that hint at a possible MCU future for not one, but two separate Spider-Women, including Peter Parker's and MJ's unborn child.

The other reference to a female Spider-Man character happened when Peter and his friends returned to school in the first half of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Amongst all the cheering and booing, someone asked Peter and MJ if they had a Spider-Baby on the way. In the comics, Peter and Mary Jane have two daughters in different realities: one is called Mayday Parker, who adopts the moniker of Spider-Girl, and the other is Anna-May Parker, who takes up the mantle of Spiderling. Considering Aunt May's tragic fate in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the birth of a "May" Parker would be a beautiful and fitting ending for Peter Parker's MCU story.

With MJ losing her memories of Peter Parker, the possibility of them having a baby is far off in the future. However, the introduction of a Spider-Woman and a Spider-Girl is not off the table. Since Sony's Spider-Man Universe is quickly getting crowded with powerful villains, a female spider-themed hero would be a good change of pace. Perhaps Spider-Woman or Spider-Girl could team up with Silk, Spider-Gwen, and Madame Web, not to mention Silver Sable, Black Cat, Miles Morales, and possibly Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, if Sony so desires.

The massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home proves that Spider-Man is still Marvel's most popular franchise. After all, only the wall-crawler can compete with the entire Avengers roster when it comes to box office records. Sony and Marvel Studios must be cautious not to litter their shared multiverse with an excessive number of stories and characters, but with the appropriate planning, Spider-Woman and Spider-Girl could become two new bankable heroes.
