At the current time of writing, the MCU's Spider-Man 3 is generating plenty of hype. Reports have suggested Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be joining Tom Holland as Peter Parker on the big screen, despite their spells as the webhead appearing to be over long ago, while Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina have also been tipped to return as villains Electro and Otto Octavius. Oh, and Charlie Cox might be back as Daredevil, too.

Should all of those things happen, fans would be entitled to expect a lengthier MCU movie than usual. So we'll now take a look at the eight Spider-Man movies released so far and rank them via their runtimes, from shortest to longest.

Into The Spider-Verse (2018): 1 hour 56 Minutes (116 Minutes Total)

Miles Morales in Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse

Fans weren't quite sure what to expect when Into the Spider-Verse hit theatres across the globe back in December 2018. After all, would throwing an animated Miles Morales, Peter Parker, and Gwen Stacy together with characters such as Spider-Ham, Peni Parker, and Spider-Man Noir really be able to work? Well, the answer is a big emphatic yes. It was well-received among critics, registering a score of 97 percent from Rotten Tomatoes, and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature as well.

It's the shortest on this list at 116 minutes but that's no bad thing. It doesn't waste any time on needless scenes, instead producing a blockbuster that moves at super-speed. Wilson Fisk is a formidable and interesting villain while the twist involving Aaron Davis was excellently handled, packing a hard emotional punch. It's no surprise a sequel is in the works and we look forward to seeing it when it hits theatres in 2022. Coronavirus permitting, of course...

Spider-Man (2002): 2 Hours 1 Minute (121 Minutes Total)

green goblin Spider-man 2002

Back in 2002, Spider-Man hit theatres across the globe. It was the first time people would get to see the character of Peter Parker in live-action and it didn't disappoint. Sure, some had an issue with Tobey Maguire being cast as the lead given there was no way he could pass for a high school student. But, for the most part, it was a huge hit.

Willem Dafoe is the highlight as Norman Osborn, oozing menace when he becomes the Green Goblin. But James Franco and Kirsten Dunst, as Peter's close friends Harry Osborn and Mary Jane Watson, excelled in their roles as well. It was a huge box office hit, with only Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, making more money that year. And it paved the way for what was to follow, ensuring the Sam Raimi trilogy got off to a very solid start.

Spider-Man Homecoming (2017): 2 Hours 13 Minutes (133 Minutes Total)

Spider-Man Homecoming Vulture

After making a brief but exciting cameo in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland's Peter Parker got his own solo movie the following year when Spider-Man: Homecoming came out. It decided against showing Uncle Ben's sad death all over again and also introduced a never-before-seen villain in the form of Adrian Toomes, AKA Vulture, who was played excellently by Michael Keaton.

It's a fun movie brimming with confidence and seems to fly by, making a mockery of its 2 hours and 13 minutes runtime. The twist that Vulture is the father of Peter's love interest, Liz, was fantastic and Jacob Batalon and Zendaya both impress in their first appearances as Ned Leeds and MJ. Peter's suit is one of our favorites, too, and Tony Stark being in the blockbuster makes it all the better. An enjoyable ride, from start to finish.

Spider-Man 2 (2004): 2 Hours 15 Minutes (135 Minutes Total)

Spidey versus Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 is, simply put, one of the best comic book sequel movies ever. Maguire, Franco, and Dunst all returned as Peter, Harry, and Mary Jane respectively and are at their terrific best in this film, appearing to enjoy themselves throughout. Molina took on the role of villain Otto Octavius and made the character iconic, painting the bad guy as far more complex than anybody could have first imagined.

Only Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Shrek 2 made more money worldwide in 2004 and, even in this day and age where superhero movies are plentiful, it definitely stands out. It's refreshing to see Maguire acting as Peter without his powers, while JK Simm0ns' return as J. Jonah Jameson is certainly enjoyable. It's one of the reasons we'll be thrilled if the reports suggesting Maguire and Molina will be back are true. Basically Marvel and Sony, just give it to us.

Spider-Man Far From Home (2019): 2 Hours 20 Minutes (140 Minutes Total)

Mysterio's illusions in Spider-Man Far From Home

After making over $1billion at the box office with the releases of Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, Marvel made it a hat-trick when Spider-Man: Far From Home hit theatres in July 2019. It saw Jake Gyllenhaal enter the fray as Mysterio, ruining Peter Parker's school trip away from New York City with a number of trippy and dangerous illusions. He steals Tony Stark's EDITH glasses, too, and comes precariously close to establishing himself as an Avenger. Fortunately, Peter exposes him for what he really is: a huge fraud.

It's rather long at 2 hours and 20 minutes but, once again, that time seems to fly by. We're now intrigued to see what the sequel will have in store, with theories aplenty doing the rounds. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long for a first trailer and let's also hope the leaks regarding Maguire, Garfield, Molina, and Dunst all prove to be correct.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014): 2 Hours 22 Minutes (142 Minutes Total)

Jamie Foxx as Electro facing off against Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit theatres back in the summer of 2014 and gave fans villains such as Electro and Green Goblin. The movie is somewhat conflicted, not knowing whether to follow the relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy or delve deep into Max Dillon and Harry Osborn's origin stories. It wasn't well-received among fans and didn't fly at the box office either.

Of course, it's got some redeemable points. Gwen's death is hard-hitting, Harry looks awesome as the Goblin, and Electro oozes charisma, even though his character design leaves much to be desired. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was meant to follow but that didn't happen in the end, with Sony opting to press the reboot button instead.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012): 2 Hours 33 Minutes (153 Minutes Total)

Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker embrace in The Amazing Spider-Man

Speaking of reboots, that brings us onto our next entry. Sony had originally planned to release Spider-Man 4 but later scrapped that idea, meaning fans were deprived of the chance to see John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway as Adrian Toomes and Felicia Hardy respectively. Nevertheless, they got a new Peter Parker in Andrew Garfield when The Amazing Spider-Man released in 2012.

The use of CGI on Curt Connors, AKA the Lizard, is a little bit over the top. And seeing Uncle Ben die on screen again gave fans bad cases of Deja Vu. However, it certainly got many things right, was still enjoyable, and also ensured the first chapter of a new trilogy get off to a successful start. And, now, onto the longest Spider-Man movie of the lot...

Spider-Man 3 (2007): 2 Hours 36 Minutes (156 Minutes)

Spidey versus Venom in Spider-Man 3

Taking the gold medal is Spider-Man 3, which hit theatres way back in 2007. It was the third and final act of the Raimi trilogy and, while it didn't live up to the same lofty standards as the two previous movies, was still a fun movie nevertheless. Harry finally became the Green Goblin (or the New Goblin to be precise), Flint Marko entered the fray as Sandman, and Eddie Brock became Venom.

Of course, the movie is remembered for being pretty cringe - and giving Peter a bizarre, goth-like makeover. But it's the longest out of them all so far and whether that changes in 2021, when the MCU's Spider-Man 3 is scheduled to come out, is something only time will tell.
