Sony has scheduled an untitled Spider-Man spinoff movie for a Fall 2021 release date. After trying and failing to launch its own Marvel cinematic universe with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014, Sony signed a deal with Marvel Studios to share the rights to the web-slinger. It's been pretty much all good news for the former ever since then, between Tom Holland's Peter Parker becoming a fan-favorite MCU character and the, respective, commercial and critical success of Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The studio is currently in the process of rapidly building on that foundation, with multiple Spider-Man spinoffs and sequels in some stage of development. First, Sony will release its Jared Leto-led Morbius spinoff - which is now confirmed to be part of the MCU - followed by Venom 2, which is believed to be targeting the October 2020 date the studio's claimed for an untitled Sony-Marvel film. After that comes Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 in July 2021, then Into the Spider-Verse 2 the following spring. Now, it appears Sony is planning to release yet another Marvel movie in-between the latter two.

ERC is reporting the studio has only just scheduled an untitled Sony/Marvel film for an October 8, 2021 release date. For the time being, Sony has yet to reveal any additional details about the project.

With so many Sony Spider-Man spinoffs in the pipeline, it's difficult to pinpoint which one is most likely targeting the October 2021 release date. The studio is reportedly developing an all-female spinoff of Into the Spider-Verse featuring characters like Silk and Spider-Woman, in addition to Hailee Steinfeld's Spider-Gwen, so that's one possibility. However, given the lack of updates recently and the amount of time it takes to actually make an animated feature, that's probably not the movie in question. Rather, there's a stronger chance Sony claimed the Fall 2021 date for one of its live-action spinoffs - a list that includes the Karven the Hunter movie being written by Richard Wenk (The Equalizer) and the Nightwatch film Spike Lee was once rumored to helm.

There's also the Sinister Six movie Sony originally intended to make s part of The Amazing Spider-Man universe. It's been obvious the studio is building towards the villain team-up film since the first Morbius trailer, which showed Michael Keaton's Vulture trying to recruit Leto's Morbius for a not so heroic cause. Sony would risk rushing Sinister Six by releasing it so soon after Morbius' debut, but that also depends on how many other - if any - Spider-Man baddies the spinoff introduces to the Sony MCU (see also: the rumors about Jared Harris playing Doc Ock, which he denies). Alternatively, the studio may prefer to make sure solo films like Kraven play well with audiences first, before bringing its many Spider-Man antiheroes together for a big crossover. For now, any guess is fair game, until Sony makes an official announcement on the matter.
