The upcoming PlayStation 5 release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales will come bundled with a remastered copy of Insomniac’s original Marvel’s Spider-Man, according to a new rumor. While not a complete sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man game, the new continuation starring Miles Morales will focus on the hero harnessing his powers and will be one of the launch titles for the PS5 when it arrives later this year.

Insomniac’s exclusive Spider-Man game for the PS4 allowed players to take on the role of Peter Parker as he navigated herodom, work and his love life with Mary Jane, all while swinging across a beautifully-realized New York City. The came quickly became a web-slinging, crime-smashing success, earning rave reviews that compared it to the likes of the Batman Arkham games, and it remains one of the most popular titles on the system. Fans were hoping for some kind of sequel news along with the reveal of the PS5, but to much surprise, Sony unveiled a new title centering on Miles Morales, although it’s less of a sequel and more an expansion akin to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

The new rumor regarding Morales's release comes from Reddit user 77good123, who posted a screenshot of a new Game Informer magazine article (thanks, PSU), which reads, “Miles Morales isn’t a traditional sequel, since it comes with a remastered version of Insomniac’s Spider-Man that takes full advantage of the PS5 hardware.” Take a peek at the post below:

While this isn’t a confirmation by any means that Miles Morales means to come bundled with an updated Spider-Man – let alone that there’s an updated Spider-Man on the way at all – it would make sense for Sony and Insomniac to have this up their sleeves. In the past, Sony has used the original game to show off the incredible power of their new system, using a comparison of the game’s loading times on the PS4 versus the PS5, with the latter rendering the loading virtually instantaneous. Sony has been putting a lot of faith in the anticipation of Morales being a driving factor to get buyers to invest in the new system, showing off some solid footage last month and then using the game to unveil the box art style for future PS5 games.

Looking at how popular Spider-Man has been for Sony and how much they're diving into what Insomniac built by making Spider-Man: Miles Morales such a primary title, there's little to think they couldn't have an updated version ready to go come launch. Not only is Morales surely a companion game best played having gone through the original entry, but including a remaster of sorts of Spider-Man would give fans an even greater incentive to pick up a copy, and a sparkling new PS5 to play it on. With not a ton of established content set to be ready at PS5 launch, such a Spidey bundle could go a long way in making the system arrive with a bang come Holiday 2020.
