A leaked video of PlayStation 5 launching Spider-Man: Miles Morales shows the unprecedented speed of the console’s SSD, which is almost hard to believe at first glance. However, this is likely a peek at the future of living room gaming, which arrives in roughly in less than two weeks with the premiere of the next generation of consoles.

The anticipated PS5 console will be able to handle higher frame rates, native 4K resolution, and ray tracing, although not all of the listed visual enhancements might be accessible at the same time in a single video game. According to one of the recent gameplay videos of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the game can run at either 60fps/4K with fewer frills or at 30fps/4K with ray tracing enabled. Needless to say, the title looks absolutely gorgeous with the revolutionary lighting technology activated, which results in realistic-looking light reflections and an overall amazing visual quality.

Another huge hardware advancement of PS5, its incredibly fast custom SSD, has finally received a proper proof-of-concept confirmation that serves as strong evidence for its efficiency in loading games, as demonstrated by nicoreese's video of Spider-Man: Miles Morales on Reddit's r/PS5. According to a leaked video, launching the game from the PlayStation 5 home screen takes no more than mere 7 seconds, and then another 2 seconds to load a save from the menu, which is miles ahead of the sometimes minutes-long loading times of the current and past console generations. However, it is worth noting that the video in question seemingly shows that the game wasn’t pre-launched and simply minimized to make for a smoother demonstration, but its no less representative of what PS5 players can expect to experience.

Although the PS5’s SSD is an undeniably exciting innovation, there’s a slight downside to it. Despite the initially expected size of 1TB, the SSD is actually an abnormal 885GB, while players will only have access to 664GB of that to actually store games and apps on. (The rest is reserved for the console’s system software.) Judging by the fact that Spider-Man: Miles Morales requires 105GB of free space, players won’t be able to have more than 5 to 6 AAA games installed at the same time. In order to bypass the disappointing restrictions, PS5 owners will seemingly be forced to buy pricey storage expansions or continue this generation's increasingly common game of figurative storage space Tetris.

While the rapidly fast work of PS5’s SSD is exciting to say the least, it should be mentioned that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a first-party title from an in-house studio. That means that Insomniac Games had access to Sony’s hardware and software resources and much better support in handling the powerful beast of tech that is the PS5. Although undeniably impressive, the demonstration might not be applicable to third-party games for the next-gen console for a good long while, which is something to consider before considering the platform to be completely revolutionary.
