Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the biggest PlayStation5 launch title in terms of UK physical sales, even though it's not the overall bestseller of the new console generation launch window. Expectations were high since Marvel's Spider-Man was one of the best-selling PS4 games and it received almost universal acclaim from critics, and Insomniac Games has not disappointed.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales was announced during a pre-launch PS5 event back in June. The game was initially promoted as being the PS5's biggest launch title, and it would be Sony's answer to Halo Infinite, which was then scheduled to be the Xbox Series X's biggest launch game. That launch battle would never come to pass, as Halo was delayed and Spider-Man became a cross-gen title, releasing on both PS4 and PS5. Despite the initial backlash to becoming a cross-gen game, the game has been well-received by critics and it's been pegged to be the biggest PS5 launch game overall.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales has already taken the top spot among the PS5 launch titles in the UK. According to GamesIndustry.bizSpider-Man: Miles Morales was the best-selling physical PS5 launch title, beating out Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Demon's Souls, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. While this data set is inherently limited by region and inability to factor in digital sales, it's nonetheless a good weathervane on the game's overall sales performance in the US and elsewhere in the West.

Another important factor to consider is that PlayStation fans in the UK had to wait an additional week for the PS5. It was possible to purchase physical copies of the game in the UK at the same time as the rest of the world, as accessories and games could still be shipped on November 12. However, Spider-Man: Miles Morales still came out on top, as fans wanted their copy of the game ready for when their PS5 finally arrived. The games PS5 sales are significantly lower at launch than those of Marvel's Spider-Man, but that's to be expected considering that the latter game was released well into the PS4's lifespan and as a strict generational exclusive. It's been incredibly difficult for the general public to get their hands on a PS5, so the sales for Miles Morales could have been a lot higher if supply had been able to meet demand.

It's no surprise to see Miles Morales do so well on PS5. It's the launch title that many fans were most excited about, even if it technically wasn't an exclusive. Miles Morales might not have done as well as Marvel's Spider-Man at launch, but there are still a lot of people out there who are hunting for PS5s, so expect to see the game remain in the charts for a while.
