Warning: contains spoilers for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #29!

Miles Morales finally has a new Spider-Man costume. Miles is a relatively new character to the Spider-Man series, first appearing in 2011's Ultimate Fallout #4 as part of the Marvel Ultimate universe. But the teenaged hero proved popular enough to make the jump to the main universe - and in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #29, written by Saladin Ahmed with art by Chris Allen and colors by David Curiel, Miles finally gets the new costume fans have been waiting for, just in time for his 10th anniversary.

In past issues, Miles has suffered greatly. He's only recently rescued his baby sister from three clones in his own Clone Saga, which ended with two clones (supposedly) dying and the third, Shift, becoming Miles' ally and an adoptive brother of sorts. Meanwhile, Ganke and Barbara broke up, confusing Miles to no end (since the pair only became a pair two issues ago). Miles has been through the wringer, and while he ultimately survived his battle with the clones, his suit did not; it's ripped to shreds and he clearly needs a new costume. Miles texts a contact named K: "I'm ready to try it on."

Spider-Man meets a woman and her nonbinary child, Kenneth Kingston - and Spidey's covered himself in a patchwork of clothes to hide his identity. Miles helped out Kenneth in a big way, and it's paying dividends. "That Van Dyne fashion mentorship you hooked Kenneth up with - it's turning their world around, straight up." She hasn't seen them happy in a very long time, but she knows that Miles helped them out - she mentions that the other heroes of the Marvel universe spend time fighting alien invaders, giant robots and mythical monsters, but Spider-Man helps out the "regular people" like her and Kenneth. Thus, Kenneth presents Miles with an all-new Spider-Man costume.

Artist Chase Conley desired to give Miles a new silhouette when designing his new suit; the old costume was a near-carbon copy of Peter Parker's. Instead of his boots blending in with his legs, the new suit has distinctive large shoes. Perhaps the most distinctive element is the jacket that culminates in a mask that ends right under Spider-Man's eyeline. The old costume was predominately black with red as the secondary color; here, both hues are evenly-dispersed. One last major distinction from Miles' (and Peter's) old suit are the eyes - they're a lighter shade of red instead of white.

The new suit is clearly a departure from Miles' old standby, and it has already proved somewhat controversial among fans who dislike the radical new design. Spider-Man suits are almost always skintight to show off his acrobatic prowess whilst swinging through New York City. But this suit is unique in that Spider-Man didn't make it himself, nor a fellow Avenger with high-tech gadgets; it was made by a fan, and someone whom Miles Morales helped.
