A scene from 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming was recreated in the gameplay trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The trailer was revealed as the second game during Sony's Playstation 5 Showcase and also showed off the game's gameplay and story as well. Insomniac's follow up to its hit 2018 game will be launching alongside the PS5 later this year, although at the time of writing the exact release date for the game has yet to be announced.

With the PS5's release date revealed to be November 12, Spider-Man's release is coming fast and the developers have released a trailer showing the HUD, combat system (which aesthetically looks the same), and explained the premise and setting of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game is set in Harlem and takes place one year after the events of the 2018 Spider-Man game. In the trailer, Miles' mother, Rio Morales, is running for office and holding a rally for her campaign.

The PS5 Showcase trailer then shows that Rio's rally is interrupted by a shootout between Rexxon, a, "devious energy corporation," and a criminal group known as The Underground, who wants to get their hands on Rexxon's NuForm, a clean but highly volatile energy source. The conflict soon entangles residents of Harlem, as a bridge is destroyed after a brief skirmish between Miles and The Underground. While the combat and swinging mechanics look the same as the 2018 game, it is followed by a pair of quicktime events where the web-slinger first rescues a bus driver, before then using his webs to hold the bridge together and let trapped pedestrians cross safely. The cutscene is incredibly similar to the actions of the MCU's version of Peter Parker and, combined with the graphics on the PS5, make for a breathtaking homage to an already incredible and frantic scene.

Additionally, a Playstation Blog post revealed that the game will be available on the Playstation 4, a surprising announcement considering that up to this point, Spider-Man: Miles Morales was touted as a PS5 title. The announcement was made with no fanfare, as (so far, anyway) the only mention of this is in the above blog. Underneath the revelation, it is also announced that the game will cost $49.99, and will provide a free upgrade to the PS5 version when it releases.

The PS4 version of Spider-Man: Miles Morales will not have the improvements that the PS5 version will, the game will (at worst) have the same graphics as 2018 Spider-Man, which was still a visually impressive game. Per the blog post, "The remaster for the PS5 is no simple up-res, as many of the game’s art assets have been completely updated to take advantage of the PS5 console’s horsepower. You’ll see better-looking characters with improved skin, eyes, hair, and facial animation[s]."

Insomniac Games have been on an incredible hot streak with their PS4 releases, and based off the fan anticpation for both Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the company is poised to keep its momentum on next-gen consoles. Allowing players to get their hands on what appears to be another well made title early, and then upgrade it to the PS5 version for free, is an incredibly customer-friendly approach (especially considering the stances of franchises like FIFA and NBA 2K) that will surely help boost both Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Playstation 5 sales.
