10 Classic Spider-Man Team-Ups We Still Want To See In The MCU

The MCU could feature some classic Spider-Man team-ups in the future, and thankfully there are many great options for them to play with. The web-slinging hero’s future in the MCU is ever in question due to ongoing contract negotiations with Sony and their own interests in developing their own movie franchise. Nevertheless, it seems safe to say that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is here to stay in the MCU and his next trilogy is in development in some form. There’s even a chance Spider-Man 4 could be part of the yet-unannounced Phase 6 slate.

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s shocking conclusion erased Peter Parker from the universe’s collective memory, so the MCU could certainly change pace and introduce all sorts of new characters for Spider-Man to work with. However, Sony’s plans for their own franchise - Sony’s Spider-Man Universe that currently lacks a Spider-Man - including Madame Web, starring Sydney Sweeney as Spider-Woman, may sour specific characters’ prospects. Nevertheless, it’s for the best that they don’t repeat the same formula even if Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned are intrinsically synonymous with the MCU’s Spider-Man. Their time will certainly come again, but for now, others deserve their chance to team up with Spider-Man.

7 The Spider-Men Are In High Demand

The most obvious and desired team-up is between Spider-Man and his greatest protégé, Spider-Man. Marvel fans have long wished for Miles Morales and other members of the Spider-Family to join the MCU, and given the contexts of the franchise and Spider-Man’s current status, the time must certainly be coming. Specifically, as in the comics, Avengers: Secret Wars may incorporate Miles Morales into the MCU. This is a case of finally since Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017 first set up Miles Morales’s MCU future. Featuring these two Spider-Men together is just what the franchise needs to venture into the hero's next saga of stories.

6 They Already Set Up Spider-Man & Daredevil

Fortunately, the MCU already has the opportunity to showcase one of Spider-Man’s best team-ups. Charlie Cox is back in Daredevil: Born Again, which has reportedly started filming, after first returning as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and in costume as Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. This would be an easy team-up to focus on in Spider-Man 4, but it's naturally expected that they’ll collaborate in some form as part of the upcoming Avengers films. Whatever the case, this is a mutually beneficial partnership. Spider-Man can engage with a different type of hero, and Daredevil can become even more integrated and pivotal to the MCU altogether.

They have extensive history in the comics, so the MCU has plenty to draw from to explore their partnership and dynamic. Significantly, now that the world has forgotten about Peter Parker, they can examine how they operate with secret identities and how that sets them apart from other Marvel heroes. That element is important again and involving Daredevil, who can still easily discover Spider-Man’s identity, would help them focus on it and their roles as street-level heroes differently. Thankfully, whether it’s a major team-up in Spider-Man 4 or something small in Avengers: Secret Wars, it feels like a safe bet to expect exciting things from Spider-Man and Daredevil together.

5 Spider-Man & Human Torch Went From Rivals To Great Friends

Another one of Spider-Man’s greatest allies is soon coming to the MCU, and their relationship traces back to Spider-Man’s early days in the comics. He first met Johnny Storm aka Human Torch in 1963’s The Amazing Spider-Man #1 which also launched the heroes’ flagship series. Initially, like many Marvel characters, Human Torch was not a fan of Spider-Man. However, the chilly reception gradually thawed as they collaborated more and more, and a deep and long-lasting friendship budded. Their connection is one of the most important and storied in Marvel Comic’s history and thus, the MCU must see them team up.

Audiences can surely expect Spider-Man and Human Torch’s relationship to come into play yet this saga with Fantastic Four in Phase 6 introducing Johnny and the rest of Marvel’s First Family. As with Daredevil, it would be surprising, and in this context, concerning, if there wasn't any interaction between the two heroes in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars, even if it just teases something bigger further down the line. Beneficially, this relationship has such long legs and potential that it can and should be developed over numerous films, while others are best suited for a single project.

4 Spider-Man 4 Is Perfect For Firestar & Iceman

The Spider-Man-Human Torch friendship is even more interesting in comparison to another one of Spider-Man’s classic team-ups. In the seminal animated series, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, he is joined by X-Men’s Iceman and Firestar, who was an original creation and proxy for Human Torch. Intriguingly, a theory suggests that Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Liz Toomes could become Firestar, which would not only add interesting dynamics to their friendship but also just help the hero’s MCU chances. Regardless of the likelihood that Spider-Man will team up with Human Torch, he should join up with Firestar and Iceman too.

Introducing both Iceman and Firestar is rather easy to do now. As an original X-Man and one of the strongest mutants in the world, Iceman should get better treatment in the MCU than he’s gotten in previous movies and films. He should be part of the first generation of the MCU’s X-Men. Meanwhile, Firestar can simply come into play as part of Spider-Man 4, joining the ranks of the MCU’s growing mutant population. Featuring both heroes would be a natural progression of Spider-Man’s heroic arc in a way that not only honors significant Marvel history but also helps further both X-Men and the MCU as a whole.

3 Black Cat Can Easily Team Up With Spider-Man

In particular, the loss of MJ provides a great opportunity for the MCU to explore some of Peter’s other romantic partners - albeit hopefully with a return to form down the line. Of course, this would be good news for someone like Gwen Stacy, but Sony might have interests in her for their own projects. Felicia Hardy AKA Black Cat is actually the better option as her partnership with Spider-Man unlocks a completely new type of story for the web-slinging her. Black Cat is a notorious burglar, so their relationship largely revolved around Spider-Man trying to turn her into a hero and her resisting.

Sony did have plans for a Black Cat movie a while back and even a tv show with Silver Sable, but nothing has progressed reportedly. Meanwhile, the MCU is actually already primed and ready for her. By exploring the relationship between Spider-Man and Black Cat, Peter can confront his own feelings, desires, and specifically, his future with MJ. After which, as in the comics, Black Cat can become a recurring anti-hero whose return would add enticing and natural complications to Peter and MJ’s relationship.

2 Spider-Man & Deadpool Are Gold Together

In most partnerships, Spider-Man is the annoying one. He’s quippy and clever, especially compared to the likes of Daredevil or Wolverine. However, in his storied team-ups with Deadpool, Spider-Man’s the mature one. With Deadpool 3 in Phase 6, Deadpool is finally joining the MCU and so this partnership is probably percolating in Kevin Feige’s mind if not for the comedic examination of heroism, then simply for the box office prospects. Spider-Man and Deadpool is an MCU crossover just waiting to happen.

Their bromance, which is somewhat one-sided at times, could certainly be a significant part of a whole film, or like others, something that can happen in upcoming crossover films. Specifically, Spider-Man can really help integrate Deadpool into the MCU. He might have an unexpectedly difficult time acclimating after jumping over in Deadpool 3 and then presumably immediately returning in the crowded Avengers films. One of Spider-Man’s most significant partnerships may be in a strange state in the MCU. While he’s been extremely antagonistic over their history together, eventually J. Jonah Jameson eventually became an ardent ally to Spider-Man. J.K. Simmons has teased a future for Jameson in the MCU, but it’s hard to believe after his actions in Spider-Man: No Way Home that they could ever work together. In fact, the MCU hasn’t set up any prospect that Peter could come to work for The Daily Bugle as it's integral to their relationship. Nevertheless, this might actually be the perfect conditions for a Spider-Man-J. Jonah Jameson partnership to excel.

If he continues to recur in Spider-Man films, the MCU can showcase how they progress from enemies to wary allies to trusted colleagues. That journey across numerous films would be fascinating, especially in the wake of Peter losing Aunt May, MJ, Ned, and even Happy. Plus, it would mean more JK Simmons and that’s just a recipe for good entertainment. It’s a team-up unlike any other, and thus it would help this trilogy stand out from the last as it genuinely centers on Spider-Man and his own legacy.
