In light of the release of a brand new trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the voice cast featured in the preview has been revealed by Sony. Produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, the forthcoming animated movie will put Miles Morales' at the forefront as he learns the ins and outs of being a friendly, neighborhood superhero.
Plot details are still scant at the moment, but Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will bring various iterations of the iconic Marvel superhero into one movie. The trailer has confirmed the existence of Peter Parker's and Gwen Stacy's version of the character, but as the preview suggests, there are more announcements to come next month via San Diego Comic-Con. In the meantime, here's the list of actors voicing the characters featured in the newest trailer.
Sony Entertainment Pictures announced the voice cast featured in the latest preview. It confirms that Jake Johnson is indeed playing Peter Parker, Miles' reluctant mentor, while Hailee Steinfeld will take on the role of "the spunky, free-spirited" Spider-Gwen. Liev Schreiber, on the other hand, will voice crime-lord Kingpin; Mahershala Ali will play Miles' uncle Aaron; Brian Tyree Henry and Lune Lauren Velex will play Miles' parents, Jefferson and Rio; and Lily Tomlin will take on the role of Aunt May. Keep in mind, however, that this is not the full cast list for the film as previously mentioned.
Sony also released a statement from Lord and Miller as they express their happiness with the voice cast they were able to assemble. The two hyped fans about the "revolutionary visual style" that Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse will have, not to mention the film's unique premise.
"We are lucky to have such an amazing cast of funny, genuine creative souls to populate the Spider-verse. They have generous minds and great big hearts. And they have very talented throats. Which is where their delightful voices come from. We can't wait for the world to see Miles Morales on the big screen. He's such a fun and exciting new character, and telling his story through a revolutionary visual style makes for a totally fresh cinematic experience that, if we may say so, is freaking amazing."
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn't the only Spider-Man-related project that Sony has for the year. The Tom Hardy-starring spinoff Venom is scheduled to release a couple of months before the multi-verse flick. Although judging by people's response, it appears that the Lord and Miller project is generating more positive buzz - and understandably so considering the narrative complications posed by the existence of Tom Holland's Peter Parker in the MCU. Meanwhile, with the animated movie not having any tie-ins with other Spider-Man live-action movies, the potential it has to become something fresh and new in a Hollywood landscape where superhero film reigns makes it intriguing.
