Ever since Sony and Marvel made the deal to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans have been dying to see how it would work. His inclusion in Captain America: Civil War was a highlight for many and got people once again interested to see a new attempt at a Spider-Man franchise. Luckily, the wait is not too far away as Spider-Man: Homecoming is coming out next summer - with Tom Holland leading the way.
The movie has been one that is highly anticipated in a post-Civil War world, but fans are also interested to see just how much the movie connects to the larger MCU. It appears that it will do so in a big way with both Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) set to return. Now, the wait to see footage from the movie is over with a short teaser dropping to announce the first trailer is debuting tomorrow night.
Sony and Marvel have now announced that the full Homecoming trailer will debut during Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow night (Thursday, December 8th). Coinciding with the announcement, they released a short tease of what the full trailer should show including a look at his web-wings, an appearance by Happy, and more.
The clip of Spider-Man getting his web-wings in the above teaser was also featured as part of the Homecoming footage shown at CCXP. The wings were a major part of Spider-Man's costume during Steve Ditko's Spider-Man comic book run - and much like Spidey's costume eye design and the Homecoming logo, the web-wings in Homecoming are another nod to the esteemed artist. The purpose of the wings should serve the actual story too, as Spider-Man now has the ability to glide for short distances. That should come in handy when he deals with Michael Keaton's Vulture. It also wouldn't be surprising to find out that Stark has more upgrades than just these new wings.
As for the style that the teaser is shot in, it uses a great deal of first person perspective to see things from Parker's point of view. It should be interesting to see if this style is translated to the film, or if this was just a decision made for the marketing materials. Either way, it is something different than anything previous Spider-Man films have done before, outside of sequences of him swinging through the city.
Now that the first bit of footage has been shown, it should be interesting to see how Marvel expands on it for the full trailer. The focus will be on Parker/Spider-Man without a doubt, but how much attention other characters get will be something to keep an eye out for. Happy's appearance has already been shown here, but it sounds as though he should have a bigger role in the actual film. Fans will surely be hoping to see Downey back again, get their first look at Vulture, or see if Zendaya's (not Mary Jane?) role is featured at all. Furthermore, the trailer dropping tomorrow should confirm that audiences will have a chance to see the trailer on the big screen for the first time with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
