Spider-Man: Homecoming is dominating buzz and ticket sales on Fandango ahead of the film's opening weekend. The popular ticketing site tracks buzz for new and upcoming movies with its "Fanticipation" buzz meter, which has a big new release on the way in Homecoming. The buzz has long been high for Tom Holland's starring debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/Vulture.
Homecoming is already certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, which can only generate more buzz and ticket sales. But some new data from Fandango illustrates just how buzzy the new Spider-Man movie really is. At the box office, it's poised to crush the rest of the field.

As reported by Heroic Hollywood, Spider-Man: Homecoming is dominating buzz on Fandango, far outpacing Wonder Woman and other recent blockbusters in ticket sales through the site. According to the "Fanticipation" meter, Homecoming scored a 97 out of 100 possible points this week. By comparison, Despicable Me 3 scored an 87, while Baby Driver finished third with 71, Transformers: The Last Knight scored a 65, and Wonder Woman rounded out the top five with 62. Homecoming is currently projected to gross as much as $120 million domestically and as much as $210 million worldwide in its opening weekend.
Fandango also took some fan surveys ahead of the release of Homecoming to gauge the source of their interest in seeing the reboot (or "reimagining," as Holland describes it). Eighty-seven percent of those polled said they have seen multiple prior Spider-Man movies. Meanwhile, 89 percent said they are fans of Holland, 86 percent are fans of Downey Jr., and 70 percent are fans of Keaton. Here's what Fandango managing editor Erik Davis said about the huge buzz for Homecoming:
“The strong advance ticket sales for Spider-Man: Homecoming represent a great start for Spidey’s main entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With terrific action set-pieces and some of the funniest scenes in any Marvel movie, Homecoming is likely to see repeat viewing business throughout the summer.”
Spider-Man's immense popularity and massive built-in fanbase were always going to buoy Homecoming with plenty of buzz and commercial success in its opening weekend. But the data from Fandango reveals that popular new releases like Wonder Woman and Despicable Me 3 don't have a chance of approaching the colossal box office totals that Homecoming is about to rack up in week one - and it could only be the beginning of an epic theatrical run.
Homecoming is one of the MCU's best-reviewed movies and will certainly have a huge opening weekend at the box office, but it remains to be seen how well it can sustain its early success. Some fans may be turned off by the movie's lighter tone and relative lack of focus on the hero's spider-sense. But there's no doubt that Spider-Man: Homecoming is well on its way to an incredibly successful premiere.
