It is no doubt that all the movies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe are interconnected – one way or the other. So when Marvel announced it would be partnering with Sony for its next Spiderman movie we weren’t sure what to expect. Fans kept on wondering if it would have any connections to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or if it would be a stand-alone production.

Well, in case you weren’t able to spot any clues, references, spoilers, or call-backs within the movie, we’ve got your back. Here are the Easter eggs in Spiderman: Homecoming you missed. Note: This article contains spoilers for the movie Spiderman: Homecoming.

The Iron Man-Captain America Tarmac Fight

We see Iron Man and his team of law-abiding Avengers face Captain America and his team of outlaws on a tarmac where the Captain and his team are trying to board a plane to some unknown location. Captain America believed the Avengers were better equipped to make decisions concerning who the real bad guys are.

However, Iron Man objects, pointing out that reckless decision making like that has led to the deaths of many civilians in the past. It constituted the climax of the movie Captain America: Civil War. You’re probably wondering how this relates to Homecoming. Well, in Homecoming, we see Peter re-watching footage of the fight recorded on his smartphone, accompanied by his ever-enthusiastic commentary.

Pepper Potts

At the end of Civil War, we all heard that Pepper and Tony were on a break. This probably led a lot of people into thinking Gwyneth Paltrow had left the Marvel scene. It was more or less a shocker when she showed up on the Avengers: Endgame scene.

More for you and less for us, because Homecoming already gave us a hint of her return. In Homecoming, Tony even jokes about proposing to Pepper. Happy, Tony’s chauffeur, also said he’s been carrying the ring Tony bought for her since 2008. This was an obvious hint we would be seeing the character on screen very soon, and we did.

The Sokovia Accords

Talking about the Captain America and Iron Man fight on the tarmac, there is a document (in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) meant to regulate the actions of superheroes. It was this same document that caused so much conflict between the two opposing teams.

With Captain America going rogue while Iron Man more or less sticks to the government’s procedures and restraints. Well, in Homecoming, we get to see (in the background of a scene) a teacher lecturing about the conflicts over this same document, known as the Sokovia Accords. Peter offers no hint as to what is going on, but we have eyes, and we spotted it.

The Iron Spider

In Homecoming, we see Tony Stark offer Peter Parker a Spider-Man suit equipped with all the latest tech from the Iron Man suit, including a retractable gold spider leg. The same suit we would see the character within AvengersInfinity War and  Avengers: Endgame. The gold and red lines on the outfit suggest this is the same suit from the comics worn by the Iron Spider – Spider-Man when he wears the suit. However, Peter does not accept the suit right away, saying he wanted to be a street-level hero for a bit longer. Even though he convinced Iron Man that he was ready to be a member of the Avengers.

Avengers Tower

There are a lot of references to the Avengers in Homecoming. However, let’s take a look at one. The Avengers Tower, which can be seen in the movie is a strong connection and reference to the Avengers.

It is a commonly shown location in many Marvel movies. It was also where Loki opened his portal in the first Avengers movie. When S.H.I.E.L.D was disbanded at the end of Winter Soldier it became the headquarters for Avengers. In Age Of Ultron, it was the site where the machine struck first. Depicting the new Avenger’s headquarters in New York shows the relation of Spider-Man to the rest of the Avengers.

Stan Lee

Who would miss a Stan Lee cameo? You of course. It’s in all the Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies, including Infinity War – check it out in case you missed it. The movie was released after his death, so did they get the cameo in? As you would expect, he did have an appearance in Homecoming. Who was he this time around? Some random guy yelling at Peter not to let him come down there (you punk). The original creator has become a fan favorite over the years, with fans keeping a close eye out for his appearance in every MCU movie. In case you’ve not been taking note, you have some serious catching up to do. Go back and re-watch all the MCU movies.

A Film By Peter Parker

This one is probably the most hilarious of them all. Most Easter eggs are expected to be found in a movie until Deadpool 2 and a couple of other movies came along and took that up a notch. Well, you do know that Deadpool has always been a bit crazy and in a whole new dimension of its own.

What you probably missed (while you were skipping the opening credits) was “A Film By Peter Parker” in the opening credits instead of the conventional mention of the name of the director. There is also a depiction of Spider-Man’s homemade movie of his exploits with the Avengers at the very beginning, just after the credits.

Who Is The Shocker?

One of the popular villains in the Spider-Man franchise (both the movies and the comics alike) is the infamous Vulture. In Homecoming, we see this notorious villain mock and eventually kill one of his henchmen. You’re asking what he did to deserve a death sentence.

A seemingly mild offense; he was going around calling himself the ‘Shocker.’ Another henchman quickly adopts both the weapons and name of the Shocker and it turns out that is the name of an actual villain in the Spider-Man comics. What a twist in the tale. It might just be the introduction of a new Spidey villain to the movies.

Uncle Ben

If you’re a hard-core Spider-Man fan (like everybody else on earth), then you probably waited for some reference to Uncle Ben. Perhaps you even expected to see him get killed like in all the other Spider-Man productions. It’s a good thing Marvel decided to spare us seeing the death of Uncle Ben for the third time in 15 years.

However, there should be some sort of reference to the character, right? As he plays a central role in Peter’s grievances and struggle. In case you missed it, Peter does allude to Uncle Ben. He said he hides his alter-ego from his Aunt May because of all that she’s been through. A pain we know must have been caused by the death of her late husband.

Karen

It was a shocker when Jennifer Connelly was revealed to be in Spider-Man: Homecoming, since there was no word-initially of her joining the cast. She plays the role of Karen, a voice and artificial intelligence assistant to Peter. To top it off, the same moment when Karen gets to shine the most was also one of the moments a call-back was made to the earlier Spider-Man movie by Tobey Maguire.

A scene where an upside-down Tobey kisses Kirsten Dunst from the 2002 Spider-Man. In Homecoming, we see a similar scene at the Washington Monument where Karen says to Peter that this was his chance to kiss her. Her, referring to Liz, the girl he had just saved. Unfortunately, that never happened.
