Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel Starts Filming In June

Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is set to begin filming this June. After producing a successful hit with Tom Holland's first standalone film as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the wall-crawling superhero, Marvel Studios, and Sony Entertainment Pictures are looking to continue their collaboration via the imminent sequel.

Not much is known regarding the sequel and it might still be too early to talk about it, considering there are five more films that are on the Marvel docket before it. However, we can expect that Parker will still be depicted as high school student -- something that will remain intact throughout the planned trilogy for the character. Original helmer Jon Watts is set to return, as well as writing duo Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers penning the script. With a team almost the same from the first film, it's safe to assume that the project will still have the qualities of Spider-Man: Homecoming, only with Spidey having more experience being a superhero.

A report from Omega Underground reveals that the still-untitled Homecoming sequel is looking to begin principal photography on June 1 and will last until September. This is a bit late compared to producer Amy Pascal's earlier revelation that they are looking to kick-off production sometime between April and May of this year, with its pre-production already starting way back last August.

Despite the slight delay, the timing makes sense with some insider information regarding the sequel hitting online in the last several weeks. There were the audition tapes of a supposedly French native Gwen Stacy, and OU also reports that Watts is looking to include Berlin scenes, much like the 2016 movie. Within the MCU-narrative, Parker's introduction to other franchise heroes such as Captain America and his team took place in Germany during the events of Captain America: Civil War. Having sequences in the city might mean that Parker either came back or there will be a flashback giving us more Spidey's perspective on that big airport scuffle among the warring Avengers factions. It's also possible that it is for an entirely new reason.

Given that Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 picks up directly after Avengers 4, it will be interesting how much Parker, as well as the world around him, have changed following Thanos' attempted invasion. Even if the Mad Titan fails in his endeavors and our heroes succeed in safeguarding humanity, Marvel Studios Kevin Feige maintains that the MCU will be very different after the Phase 3 capper. Chances are that there will be more cosmic adventures in the franchise moving forward and having an Earth-bound character like Spidey is a great way to make sure that the series remains grounded amidst all the potential galaxy/dimension hopping in the future.
