Harry Osborn has been a mainstay in Spider-Man's life since his earliest comic books and transferred over to the movies more than once. He has been a best friend to Peter Parker and one of his greatest enemies when he took over his father's role as Green Goblin in the comics and movies.

Harry Osborn is front-and-center in Spider-Man's life in 2021 in Amazing Spider-Man, where he is a piece of a puzzle surrounding the demonic villain Kindred. This story paints a lot of Harry's history as a lie, but despite all the changes, three are some things comic book fans know about that remain tried and true.

Harry Osborn and Gwen Stacy Were Childhood Friends

Harry Osborn first showed up as a new student that Peter Parker met and became friends with. It turned out over time that he was the Green Goblin's son, but Harry didn't even know that at the time. The story mostly centered around Peter and Harry becoming friends.

Marvel released a book called Gwen Stacy in 2020 by Christos Gage and Todd Nauck. This book showed Gwen before she met Peter Parker and it turned out that Gwen and Harry were the best of friends in high school, explaining why Gwen Stacy's death shook up Harry almost as much as Peter.

Harry Used To Date Mary Jane Watson

When Amazing Spider-Man first started, Peter's Aunt May was trying to hook him up with her friend's niece, Mary Jane Watson. Peter, thinking that MJ had to be horrendous to need a blind date, avoided her and ended up meeting and dating Gwen Stacy.

This led to Peter and Gwen going on double dates with his buddy Harry and his new girlfriend, who happened to be Mary Jane Watson. MJ always had a crush on Peter and had no problem showing it, one of the reasons that Harry began to feel resentment toward his best friend.

Harry Did Drugs In The Comics

While Harry Osborn and Mary Jane Watson were dating, she was an aspiring actress and was getting some successful roles in stage plays. At the same time, she began to show more interest in Peter Parker, and Harry began to deal with problems of his own, most caused by his father.

Harry started to take pills to help him with his pain and eventually overdosed and ended up in the hospital. It was a groundbreaking storyline for Marvel, who never dealt with real-world issues like this due to the Comic's Authority. It caused MJ to break up with Harry and that drove him to become the Green Goblin after his father's death.

Harry Married Liz Allen And Had A Son Named Normie

Over time, Harry Osborn was able to start to turn his life around when he suffered amnesia and forgot he was the Green Goblin. He ended up getting married to one of Peter Parker's former high school friends in Liz Allen, who he met at Ned Leeds and Betty Brant's wedding.

The two began to build a family together and had a son named Normie. The fact that they named their child after Norman Osborn was a sign of things to come. Normie developed an intense hatred for Spider-Man and at times, his father's issues manifested themselves in his son.

Harry Osborn Died A Hero

Harry Osborn dies to save Spider-Man in Marvel Comics.

Harry Osborn eventually remembered he was the Green Goblin and still blamed Spider-Man for his father's death. This caused him to put the costume back on and start to torment Spider-Man again. However, he never committed a crime, so nothing could be done.

He finally attacked Spider-Man in Spectacular Spider-Man #200 and set up his townhouse to explode, killing them both. However, both Mary Jane and his son Normie were there, and Norman saved both of them and then saved Spider-Man as well, dying in the ultimate sacrifice.

Harry Was Indirectly Responsible For Bringing Back Peter Parker's Parents

Peter Parker meets his parents with Aunt May.

Before Harry Osborn died saving Spider-Man, he had planned a way to destroy the Wall-Crawler's life. A moment arrived where Peter's parents, who he believed died years before, returned. He developed a relationship with them until he learned it was all a ruse and they were life-model decoys.

It turned out that Chameleon had planned out this elaborate ruse to drive Spider-Man crazy. By the time Spider-Man learned what was going on and his parents died in front of him again, he found evidence that Harry Osborn planned this by giving Chameleon Peter's DNA samples to create the LMDs.

Harry Became The American Son

Harry Osborn as American Son with his father Norman.

Harry returned to life after the One More Day storyline. It seemed that he ended up resurrected because of Peter's deal with Mephisto to save Aunt May's life in exchange for his marriage to Mary Jane never existing. However, it turned out that he ended up revived the same way his father was, due to the Goblin Serum.

That might all end up a lie based on the new Kindred storyline, but it helped Harry become a good person again after his life as the Green Goblin. When Norman Osborn took over S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Dark Reign storyline, he created the Dark Avengers and Harry eventually became a hero known as The American Son and defeated his father.

Changed His Name To Harry Lyman

After Harry Osborn moved on and left his father's legacy behind him, he wanted to start fresh with his wife Liz and their now two sons. They were wealthy thanks to Liz's work as a businessperson and he decided to no longer be an Osborn.

Harry changed his name to Harry Lyman and removed himself from his family, at least by name. When Norman returned to villainy with the Carnage symbiote infecting him, Harry had to once again step up to save his family from his father.

The Osborn Curse

Norman Osborn makes a deal with Mephisto.

The biggest twist in the new Amazing Spider-Man storyline with Kindred was the reveal that Harry Osborn was not who he seemed. This led to a moment where Norman Osborn learned what he did so many years ago that doomed his own son.

Many years before Peter Parker made a deal with Mephisto to save his Aunt May's life, Norman made a deal with the devil to become a success. He offered up his firstborn to reach his goals and Harry was stuck with a curse he never wanted or deserved as a result.

The Kindred Mystery

Kindred taunts Spider-Man.

The Kindred storyline promises to change everything Marvel readers know about Harry Osborn. Kindred arrived a few years back and began to manipulate things, helping Mysterio achieve multiverse travel in exchange for the villain helping him. He even brought villains back from the dead, proving Kindred was a very dangerous demon.

Kindred then unmasked as Harry Osborn, but that was not completely the truth as well. The mainstream Harry that became a Lyman and fought his father was still alive and was not Kindred. With the question of clones, deals with the devil, and curses, Harry Osborn might prove to be the biggest mystery ever told in Spider-Man comics.
