Marvel Studios has officially begun the marketing for Spider-Man: Far From Home - launching an official countdown clock until the film's release. A trailer is largely speculated to arrive within the next month, to drop alongside the release of Sony's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

There are three Marvel movies due to come out next year: Captain Marvel, the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Production recently finished on the Spider-Man sequel, and a wealth of set photos have been circulating the internet.

Marvel's countdown clock marks the beginning of the marketing push for Spider-Man: Far From Home. It's a little surprising to see marketing begin quite so early on, considering Marvel hasn't even begun the push for Avengers 4, which will release first. The most likely reason for this, of course, is the fact that the Spider-Man films are part of a unique deal between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures; Sony is in charge of the marketing, and will presumably want to begin soon.

Tom Holland as Spider-Man in Avengers Infinity War

Little is currently known of the Spider-Man sequel, which is expected to begin "minutes after" the events of Avengers 4. It will be an introduction to the post-Phase 3 MCU, with Spider-Man teaming up with Nick Fury and Maria Hill as they go up against the threat of Mysterio. Michael Keaton will reprise the role of the Vulture, too, which adds another exciting dimension to the plot - after all, Vulture knows Spider-Man's secret identity.

This will be our first real glimpse of the MCU in the years after Avengers 4. Robert Downey Jr. will not reprise the role of Tony Stark in the film, leading many to speculate that Tony will meet an untimely end in the Avengers sequel. If that is true, no doubt Peter will have to deal with a great deal of grief at the loss of his mentor figure. That could mean Spider-Man: Far From Home has a very different tone and style to the first film.

Set photos have shown Spider-Man wearing at least two new costumes. The one that's attracted the most attention appears to be a blend of three designs from the comics: the Spider-Man Noir outfit, the armor Peter wore in the Spider-Man event "To The Ends of the Earth," and another that was given to him by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the "Secret War" plot. There's a convenient gap on the shoulder of the suit that's the perfect size to add an emblem, leading to heavy speculation that Nick Fury and Maria Hill are associated with a resurgent S.H.I.E.L.D..
