A new set photo from Spider-Man: Far From Home has given viewers their best look yet at the wall-crawler's new black suit. The last week has seen a wave of new photos and even video footage, but this image reveals details that show this costume is like nothing seen before in the comics.

Back in June, reports began to surface that Peter Parker would don a new costume in Spider-Man: Far From Home. From an out-of-universe perspective, it makes perfect sense; a new outfit means a whole new range of toy sales. Under the terms of their deal with Sony, Marvel doesn't actually make any money from the box office or distribution of the solo Spider-Man films. But they do profit from the merchandise. Of course, there'll be story reasons as well, but the truth is that Peter was always going to take up a new costume.

Over the last week, fans have been treated to a number of set photos showing what seems to be a stealth suit that Peter wears while working alongside Nick Fury. The dark colors have been compared to the Spider-Man Noir outfit, but this latest image suggests it's very different.

It's true that the dark hues are evocative of some sort of stealth costume, perfect for the kind of spy work Nick Fury would surely want Spider-Man to do on his behalf. But this detailed shot clearly makes it look like pretty formidable body armor, albeit presumably designed from some sort of highly flexible material. It's interesting to note that Peter's hands are uncovered, possibly meaning he isn't too worried about leaving fingerprints.

The ultimate question is just where Marvel really got the inspiration for this new Spider-Man costume. It looks like a blend of different Spider-Man outfits; the pattern of the armor is reminiscent of the suit Peter wore in Dan Slott's epic "To The Ends of the Earth." That costume was created by Spider-Man in order to take on the assembled might of the Sinister Six. It featured a host of tricks and gadgets, and indeed there's a hint of that in the arms, which are adorned with a small number of subtle lights.

The Spider-Man of the MCU has tends to use others as his tailors. So far, he's worn advanced costumes created by Tony Stark, culminating in the brilliant Iron Spider outfit in Avengers: Infinity War. Presumably this latest costume has been developed by Nick Fury's still-mysterious organization, which many believe to be a resurgent S.H.I.E.L.D.. It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not Peter retains his ties to the agency when the film is done.
