Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new Secret Wars fan poster. Of all the superheroes depicted on the silver screen over the last two decades, the metamorphosis of Peter Parker AKA Spider-Man has been the most interesting. Sony helped to kick-off an era of big-screen adaptations with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire. Following Spider-Man 3 (and studio interference during pre-production of Spider-Man 4), Raimi withdrew from the franchise, prompting the studio to reboot the character with Garfield.

For the most part, Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man and Garfield’s performance satisfied fans and critics alike. However, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 received a mixed response from audiences. Its lackluster success halted all planned sequels and spinoffs. Instead, Sony worked out a deal with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man (Tom Holland) into the MCU (Sony retaining the rights to the web-slinger). While Holland’s version of the character is certainly beloved, fans still wonder what Garfield would’ve looked like in the MCU.

Freelance digital artist, Venomhology, recently shared a mock MCU poster on Instagram featuring Garfield’s Spider-Man. The piece imagines a black version of the suit from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The poster deems this Marvel Studios outing, Secret Wars. Check it out below.

Written by Jim Shooter, with illustrations by Mike Zeck and Bob Layton, Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars, was a crossover comic published in 1984 and 1985. Its story follows a cosmic entity known as the Beyonder, who observes the Marvel Universe. Fascinated by the seemingly never-ending battle between good and evil, Beyonder abducts a group of iconic heroes and villains and transports them to a planet called “Battleworld,” where he has them fight for his amusement. Of the heroes, of course, is Spider-Man who, in Secret Wars, wears the black suit for the first time (unaware that it is an alien symbiote AKA Venom). The black costume was similarly incorporated in Rami’s Spider-Man 3.

Multiple suits and iterations of the character appeared in Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Ever since then, fans have hoped to see Maguire, Garfield, and Holland’s Spider-Men crossover. This has already happened on the page and, with Into the Spider-Verse 2 in the works and the MCU’s exploration of the multiverse, could happen on screen. The interwoven comic-book universes/multiverses are on the verge of becoming fully-realized on the big screen. If Marvel Studios ever adapts the Secret Wars storyline, it will probably see Holland suit up. Still, we might get to see Garfield put on the tights one last time. Whether that be in a Sony production or the MCU, remains to be seen. Regardless, it's doubtful he'll be wearing black.
