Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is confirmed to return in Spider-Man 4, and this is a great opportunity to flip Peter’s current role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man finally joined the MCU in Captain America: Civil War after Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) recruited him to join his fight against Team Captain America, and not long after, viewers got to see Peter Parker in action in his first solo movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Since then, Holland’s Spider-Man has become one of the most popular and beloved MCU characters, and he’s now joining Thor as one of the heroes who have been granted four solo movies.

Spider-Man: No Way Home brought major changes to Peter’s story, as after accidentally opening the gates to the universe along with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), he realized the only way to close them and stop massive multiversal chaos was by casting a spell that would make everyone forget him. The spell was a success and Peter was left all alone and starting over from scratch at the end of No Way Home, which makes way for a variety of possibilities for his return in Spider-Man 4, and it also makes it possible for him to flip the role he has been given so far if this new adventure introduces a long-awaited character.

Peter Parker Can Be Miles Morales Mentor In Spider-Man 4

MCU's Spider-Man with PS4 & Spiderverse Miles Morales

Although Spider-Man 4 is confirmed to be in development, plot details are unknown, and given how everything ended for Peter in No Way Home, his next big screen adventure could take many paths and introduce a variety of characters. One who has been heavily rumored to make his MCU debut in Spider-Man 4 is Miles Morales, and if it happens, Marvel can take advantage of his presence to finally flip Peter’s role from mentee to mentor.

During his time in the MCU so far, Peter has always been the mentee, which has held him back a bit from fully embracing who he is as both a person and a superhero. Peter was taken under Tony Stark’s wing since his debut in Civil War, and following Iron Man’s death, Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) posed as a new mentor for him, though that didn’t end well for any of them. In No Way Home, Doctor Strange also served as a mentor figure for Peter, but now that he’s alone and no one knows him/remembers him, Peter can now be the mentor of another young character with similar powers to his. It has been speculated that Spider-Man 4 will introduce Miles Morales as Peter’s college roommate/friend, which would allow Peter to take the role of mentor/guide while also bonding with someone who understands what he has gone through, to an extent.

The MCU Has Repeatedly Teased Miles Morales

Miles Morales and MCU Spider-Man.

Rumors and theories about Miles Morales’ introduction to the MCU haven’t popped up just because of the character’s popularity, but because the MCU has repeatedly teased his arrival. Spider-Man: Homecoming introduced Aaron Davis (Donald Glover), Miles’ uncle, and a deleted scene showed him calling his nephew. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Electro (Jamie Foxx) was surprised to learn that his Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) isn’t Black, adding that “there’s gotta be a Black Spider-Man out there somewhere”. The MCU clearly intends to introduce Miles Morales at some point, and Spider-Man 4 would be the perfect opportunity, and it won’t only allow Peter to go from mentee to mentor, but it will also make way for a new Spider-Man if Peter Parker retires in the near future.
