Spider-Man 3 may have found its Kraven the Hunter as Jimmy Kimmel "confirms" that he has nabbed the role. Tom Holland is set to suit back up as the web-slinging hero in the MCU after a brief conflict last year that almost pulled him out of the franchise. Filming is expected to begin on Spider-Man 3 this week in Queens, and while chances are that it won't feature major cast members, it's an indication that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment is gearing to enter production.

With this, casting for the currently-untitled Spider-Man 3 is also in full swing. Jamie Foxx is reportedly reprising his role as Max Dillon, aka Electro from 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This was followed by another casting announcement claiming that Benedict Cumberbatch has also joined the project to reprise his role as Doctor Strange. Marvel Studios has yet to make comments about any of these, but Foxx has indirectly confirmed his involvement in the project and if Kimmel's latest social media post is to be believed, he, too, may soon debut in the MCU.

Taking it to his official Twitter account, Kimmel randomly announced that he's "been tapped to play Kraven the Hunter" in Spider-Man 3. There's no additional context to his tweet, although he tagged Holland in it. At the time of writing, however, the young actor hasn't replied. Read the host and comedian's odd statement below:

Given the timing of the tweet and Kimmel's jokester personality, chances are that he's only kidding with this statement. That said, it's curious what brought it on, considering that it appears to come out of nowhere. Looking at Jimmy Kimmel Live's schedule for the week, Holland or any other MCU/Sony actor isn't in the roster of confirmed appearances, although it's worth noting that its guest for Friday's (October 16) has yet to be announced. Since the show is under ABC, which is owned by Disney, Marvel Studios tends to debut a new trailer via Kimmel's nighty show, so perhaps it has something to do with that. If anything, as filming for Spider-Man 3 nears, maybe a title confirmation is on the horizon.

In light of the recent casting news for the threequel, however, the hype for Kraven the Hunter's potential MCU debut as the primary antagonist of Spider-Man 3 has significantly decreased. While the classic Marvel villain seemed to be the perfect bad guy for the upcoming blockbuster on the heels of Spider-Man: Far From Home where Spider-Man's real identity was revealed, it appears as if Marvel Studios and Sony are veering away from the premise and shifting its focus on building the MCU's Spider-Verse. In any case, it's still interesting to find out what compelled Kimmel's recent announcement.
