Warning: The Following Contains Spoilers for Marvel's Spider-Man

Marvel's Spider-Man is one of the most successful PlayStation exclusives of all time, and for good reason. Insomniac managed to get Spider-Man right in so many ways, from Peter Parker's personality to the complexity of villains like Doc Ock.

The game featured a wealth of villains from Spider-Man's past, and the ending set up some interesting possibilities. Now, the big question is which villains will feature in the eventual sequel? There are a few that seem guaranteed at this point.

Spider-Man 2 has a lot of potential in terms of villains, and the hero has a sizable Rogue's Gallery to choose from. Here are a few villains that need to be in Insomniac's Spider-Man 2.

Venom and Carnage

Carnage Comic Cover Wall Crawling

The most obvious pick for Spider-Man 2 is Venom, especially since the ending of the first game seemingly sets up the villain's introduction. There are a few Venom teases throughout the game, but the big moment comes in the after-credits scene. Norman Osborne opens a secret room in his apartment, and inside lies a tank holding his son, Harry, who's encapsulated in some kind of black webbing. This is almost assuredly a symbiote, setting up the possibility for a Harry Osborn Venom to appear in Spider-Man 2. However, the sequel could introduce not just Venom but also Carnage, making for a huge symbiote threat. Venom and Carnage often appear in the same stories, and it could even lead to an interesting situation where Peter and Harry, already good friends, have to team up to take down a bigger threat.

Green Goblin

Green Goblin of the Wastelands

There are few Spider-Man villains as dangerous as Green Goblin, and again he's a villain that the first game indicated is on the way. Green Goblin is, of course, best known as Norman Osborn, although others have also assumed the mantle. Norman is a major character in the PS4 game, as he's now the mayor of New York. The same ending that hints at Venom could potentially hint at Green Goblin. The scene shows how far Norman has fallen into madness, and the entire room is bathed in an eerie green light, suggesting he's using technology that could lead to the Green Goblin. Going up against both Osbornes as powerful villains would certainly provide a huge threat to Peter in Spider-Man 2.

Kraven the Hunter

Kraven the Hunter is a fascinating villain, and one of Spider-Man's most formidable antagonists. While Kraven could do interesting things in the story of Spider-Man 2, his potential as a gameplay system is far more interesting. The first game had random crime events that popped up all over the city for players to take on but imagine if these random events took the form of a villain instead. Kraven could stalk Spider-Man through the streets of New York, laying ambushes and attacks on the player. Kraven could work as a fantastic emergent sidequest in Spider-Man 2, and one that adds some real stakes.

Prowler

The Prowler has been a long-time lesser-known villain, and he was first introduced in 1969. However, the Prowler's more recent appearances cast him as a villain for Miles Morales. Spider-Man 2 will likely show Miles moving into his role as another Spider-Man, under the tutelage of Peter Parker. Considering this, it would only make sense for a Miles-centric villain to also appear in the sequel, and the Prowler would be the perfect pick. Spider-Man 2 could put an interesting twist on the family dynamic between the Prowler and Miles, and add some emotional weight at the same time.

Mysterio

The first Spider-Man features Mysterio in an interesting way, as a party-goer dresses up as the villain at one point. The game seems to hint that this version of Peter has encountered Mysterio before, which means he'd already be an established villain in Insomniac's universe. Mysterio is a brilliant villain and one that chooses to use deception and mind games more often than violence. Spider-Man 2 could do some really interesting things gameplay-wise with Mysterio, and make players question what's real and what isn't. The Easter Eggs of the first game seemingly guarantee he'll appear in a sequel, but Mysterio could easily help mastermind the threat in Spider-Man 2.

Sandman

Sandman is another iconic villain that could help round out the roster of Spider-Man 2 with his unique powers. If combined with the likes of Venom and Green Goblin, Sandman could make for a varied experience, especially in terms of boss battles. He could easily fill the role of the sympathetic villain like Doc Ock did in the first game. Coincidentally, the first Spider-Man has an Easter Egg corresponding to Sandman, as one of the collectible backpacks in the world contains a vile of sand from the villain. This gives Peter history with Sandman, which could work into the story of Spider-Man 2.
