The Spectacular Spider-Man is a show with an amazingly large cast of characters. But despite the sheer number of them, each person manages to stand out in their unique way. This includes the female characters. While unfortunately, they may not get to kick butt as often as the male characters do, these women are still strong, smart, and interesting.

Ultimately, all of these characters are great to watch in the series. There are, however, some female characters in Spectacular Spider-Man that will stick with audiences longer than others.

Dr. Martha Connors

The Connors family hug in Spectacular Spider-Man

Usually, in any Spider-Man media, Curt Connors is given the spotlight, seeing as he does become the villainous Lizard. However, in this show, his wife Martha is given just as much screentime. She is smart, and not only academically since she can give quips and remarks at the drop of a hat.

Her relationship with the other Connors is always wonderful to see, as it's easy to understand how much they all care for one another. Therefore, the Lizard's episode is just as much her episode, since viewers can see how torn up she is at her husband's fate.

Gwen Stacy

One of the many interesting facts about Spectacular Spider-Man is that this show was the first time that Gwen was a series regular in a Spider-Man cartoon. She is Peter's best friend, and more often than not she acts as both his brain and his conscience. She drives the show's plot since she urges characters to learn the lessons that bring about each episode's conclusion.

She is the smartest and kindest kid in school, which is often taken for granted. Audience members can't help but feel frustrated with Peter, since he is constantly overlooking her. Thankfully, the show doesn't overlook her and lets her shine every episode.

Glory Grant

Glory is a very underrated character, as she usually isn't at the forefront of affairs. However, when she does appear during the high school scenes, she stands out in how much more mature and righteous she is in comparison with the other popular kids. She constantly breaks up with her boyfriend Kenny when he bullies other students, and instead dates Harry who treated her far more kindly.

She is never mean to anyone, despite being surrounded by mean characters. When she first meets Mary-Jane, the two get along swimmingly, and it's easy to see why someone would want to be friends with Glory.

Black Cat

Black Cat in Spectacular Spider-Man

Black Cat is one of the show's best villains, and for good reason. She's easily able to keep up with Spider-Man's quips and barely sees him as a threat, stating "Cats don't fight spiders. We just bat them around." She proves this correct, as she later steals expensive jewelry right under Spider-Man's nose.

She's also amazing at combat and acrobatics, which she showcases when helping Spider-Man fight Chameleon. It's a shame that she's the only female character that gets to take part in any battles because if there were any other female fighters even as half as good as Black Cat, they would still be amazing to see.

Sally Avril

Sally Avril in the Spectacular Spider-Man

Sally Avril may be a typical mean girl, but that doesn't mean she's not fun to watch. In the first episode, she manages to make a big impression, as she outrageously mocks Peter when he tries to ask her out. And as the episodes continue, she increasingly gets her comeuppance for her poor attitude in hilarious ways.

Also, she's dating Rand Robertson, who is a very heroic and chill character, so there must be some redeeming qualities to her, deep down. Viewers may wonder that if the show hadn't been suddenly canceled after its second season, she would have had more time to be fleshed out.

Sha Shan Nguyen

Sha Shan and Flash Thompson in Spectacular Spider-Man

While seemingly quiet and shy, Sha Shan is an impactful enough character that she can change Flash Thompson's brutish attitude for the better. She is notoriously the only character "totally immune to the Flash, because she's got a brain," and this leads to Flash trying to get to know her through the things she likes, such as drama. She's incredibly talented at acting, and Flash can't help but admire her.

While she mainly hangs out with Flash throughout the show, we occasionally see her hanging with Mary-Jane. Considering that Mary-Jane is so beloved at Midtown High, it's easy to assume that Sha Shan is as well.

Betty Brant

Betty Brant is J. Jonah Jameson's assistant at the Daily Bugle, and is momentarily the object of Peter's affections, though she gently turns him down due to their age gap. But it's easy to see why Peter likes her.

She was always able to keep up with both Peter and Spider-Man's best quips, showing her smart personality. She was also clearly someone with a strong character, as she was able to put up with Jameson's constant outbursts and crazy demands without batting an eye. She was even able to soften him up occasionally, proving her to be a likable and calming presence.

Mary-Jane Watson

Mary-Jane is the most likable character in all of the Spectacular Spider-Man cast. She's funny, smart, and takes on life with a very adaptable and chill approach. Her entrance to the show is of course iconic; showing up in a black dress and stating to Peter, "Face it, Tiger, you just hit the jackpot," and she remains iconic throughout the show.

She is also a great friend, constantly giving people advice when they need it. When Gwen falls over while running away from Doc Ock, Mary-Jane is the one who comes running to help her. She cares about everyone around her.

Aunt May

Aunt May is the first female character we meet in the show, and according to Peter, she is "the most beautiful woman in Forest Hills." Her relationship with Peter is touching, as despite her struggling with bills and the loss of her husband, she does everything she can to give Peter a happy home life. She constantly wants to help people, even when it puts her health at risk.

She isn't a doormat though, reprimanding and grounding Peter when he continuously comes home late after fighting crime. She even goes to his work to prevent him from dating Betty Brant, which, according to Peter, makes her "an evil mastermind."

Liz Allen

Liz Allan and Peter in The Spectacular Spider-Man

Liz Allen is probably the character that goes through the most development throughout the show. She starts as a mean popular cheerleader and Flash's girlfriend. However, when she and Peter start hanging out, she learns the value of science and what it means to be a decent person.

While it seems obvious that her and Peter's relationship wouldn't last, it ends up being tragic, as she cares about Peter a lot. Liz also has trouble with her brother, who becomes the flaming villain Molten Man. Her character goes through a lot, but she always manages to stay strong through even the hardest moments.
