Space Jam is a nostalgic children's movie for a lot of people who grew up watching and rewatching the 1996 movie about one of their favorite basketball players, Michael Jordan, helping the Looney Tunes fend off some evil aliens by winning a basketball game.

There were several characters in the movie from alien antagonists to actors and athletes portraying fictionalized versions of themselves and of course the iconic Looney Tunes characters. All the characters have varying ranges of likability from heroes the audience roots for to villains the audience is meant to hate.

Swackhammer

Swackhammer, voiced by Danny DeVito, is the obvious villain of the story and the least likable character that appears in the movie.

Swackhammer is greedy and treats his employees terribly, the same ones who eventually turn into The Monstars and play the Tune Squad. His amusement park is failing so he hatches an evil scheme to force the Looney Tunes to be popular attractions at his park.

The Monstars

The Monstars is a team of aliens controlled by Swackhammer and stole their strength and skill from professional basketball players as a way to almost ensure their victory over the Tune Squad.

Although The Monstars are the main antagonists of the movie, they're redeemable characters at the end when they realize they can stand up to the more villainous Swackhammer. They become friends with the Looney Tunes and agree to give the basketball players their skills back.

The Basketball Players

Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, and Muggsy Bogues were part of the famous athlete cameos in Space Jam.

The Monstars stole their basketball skills and they were all left in an awkward position in not being able to adequately play basketball. They don't appear for much of the movie, but they all have a fun cameo and moment with Michael Jordan where they all play a fun game together after getting their skills back.

Larry Bird

Former basketball player Larry Bird has more of a featured role in the movie as a supportive friend to Michael Jordan who also interacts with Bill Murray throughout the movie as well.

He has a more prominent role than the other basketball players, but he doesn't do as much as Bill Murray or Michael Jordan. Still, he's a friendly and likable presence whether on the golf course or watching a basketball game.

Stan Podolak

Wayne Knight, best known for his role as Newman on Seinfeld, portrayed Stan Podolak in Space Jam and was a supportive friend, manager, and trainer to Michael Jordan.

Stan is a nervous and anxious character who is constantly worried about Michael Jordan, his well-being, and his career. At first, he has a difficult time trusting the Tune Squad, but throughout the movie, he becomes one of their most enthusiastic fans. He's also the one who realizes that the other side is cheating and jumps onto the court when he's needed the most.

Daffy Duck

Daffy Duck is one of the iconic Looney Tunes characters appearing in Space Jam. Daffy and Bugs bicker throughout the movie and it's clear that the audience is meant to side with Bugs most of the time making Daffy a bit more unlikable.

Daffy is pretty selfish in the movie and likes to start arguments with Bugs, but overall he's still a pretty likable character although not the most lovable.

Lola Bunny

Lola Bunny is part of the Looney Tune group and had her first appearance in Space Jam as a capable and lovable character who is usually portrayed as Bugs' love interest or partner.

Lola joins the team and quickly proves herself as one of the best players on the team. Bugs quickly falls in love with her, and most of the other characters do too, as well as the audience.

Bill Murray

Bill Murray is known for his comedic roles and Space Jam is no different. Although Space Jam might not be Murray's most famous role, he still plays a lovable and supportive character in this iconic movie.

Bill Murray portrays a fictionalized version of himself who is good friends with Michael Jordan and Larry Bird before the Tune Squad arrives. Murray supports his friends and inspires Jordan to get back into basketball when he felt uncertain about his role on the team, also, he jumped in when the team needed him the most.

Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan portrays himself in the Space Jam movie a few years after he first retired from basketball in 1993. The movie jokes a bit about his career post-basketball as he tries to get into both golf and baseball with objectively less success than his basketball career.

He's a lovable and relatable character who loves his family and is having a difficult time finding himself after retiring from basketball, but he's willing to return to help his new friends when they need him the most.

Bugs Bunny

Bugs Bunny is an iconic character and easily one of the most lovable characters in Space Jam. Bugs is a fun and charismatic character who comes up with most of the schemes throughout the movie.

Bugs is the de facto leader of the Looney Tunes and is the one that eventually persuades Michael Jordan to join their team. Bugs has an outgoing personality and is an immediate fan-favorite as Bugs already has a strong reputation as a lovable character within Looney Tunes and continued to be a lovable character in Space Jam.
