A new TV spot for Space Jam 2 shows LeBron James teaming up with the Tune Squad. After years of languishing in development, a Space Jam sequel starring NBA superstar LeBron James was officially announced back in 2014. Production then didn’t begin until 2019 under director Terence Nance who soon stepped away due to creative differences and was replaced by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip), who finished the long-awaited and highly-anticipated sequel. After a long bumpy road in development and production, Space Jam: A New Legacy will finally be seen in theaters and on HBO Max next month.

While many claim the original 1996 Space Jam was an ego-inflating exercise for Michael Jordan, LeBron set the sequel apart from its predecessor early on by saying it would be centered around family. Produced by Creed and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, A New Legacy will find LeBron as a fictional version of himself struggling to relate to his teenage son Dom, who dreams of becoming a videogame developer. After the two become trapped in virtual reality by Don Cheadle’s rogue A.I., LeBron must team up with the Looney Tunes to defeat his team of digitized NBA stars on the court.

A new TV spot for Space Jam: A New Legacy is teasing this team-up between the basketball icon and the Looney Tunes. The 30-second spot shows LeBron being sucked into the Serververse, which initiates his transformation into cartoon form. Then he returns to human form and teams up with the Tune Squad, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Lola Bunny, Sylvester the Cat, Tweety Bird, Wile E. Coyote, and the surprisingly spry Granny. This is just one of many trailers and TV spots Space Jam has received so far, including a recent fake 30 for 30 documentary from ESPN that revealed Zendaya's voice as Lola Bunny for the first time. Though the movie is now on the back end of its promotional campaign ahead of its release next month, there could be a few more reveals coming, perhaps regarding Michael Jordan’s mysterious involvement in the film, which Cheadle previously teased.

While they were featured briefly in a previous trailer, the film's villains have not been seen much yet. The computer-animated Goon Squad is voiced by NBA, and WNBA stars Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Diana Taurasi, Klay Thompson, and Nneka Ogwumike. With this TV spot highlighting LeBron and the Tune Squad, be on the lookout for more Space Jam 2 teasers featuring the villainous Goon Squad.
