One of the most anticipated films of the year is Space Jam: A New Legacy. A long-delayed sequel to Space Jamthe sequel deals with LeBron James as he is sucked into the world of Warner Bros. and must team up with the Looney Tunes to take down the Goon Squad and the evil A.I. Al G. Rhythm.

Much like Ready Player OneA New Legacy contains many different crossovers with other Warner Bros. properties as well as references to basketball in general. While many of the films references are obvious, there are some that fans may have missed.

The Lord Of The Rings

The Members Of The Fellowship Of The Ring standing together in The Lord of the Rings.

As LeBron plans to create his dream team of Warner Bros. characters in order to get his son back, one of the characters on his list is Gandalf the Gray. In addition, two of the best characters in the franchise, Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee, can be seen amongst the main characters watching the film's climactic game.

Hailing from Lord Of The Rings, one of Warner Bros. most critically acclaimed film franchises, viewers were surprised to see them in a film like this one.

The Devils

Al G Rhythm, Mr. Freeze and a Nun from The Devils celebrate courtside

Throughout the film's final basketball game, nuns can be seen in the crowd at various times throughout the game. Though some have taken the nuns to be a reference to The Nun, they are actually a reference to Ken Russell's The Devils.

One of the most controversial films of all time due to its graphic content, the film was famously heavily censored by Warner Bros. on release. This easter egg can be seen as Warner Bros acknowledging the upsetting film and the effect it has had on the film industry.

Lebron James' Iconic Alley Oop

Lola Bunny Mimics Dwyane Wade

As the Tune Squad competes against the Goon Squad, Lola Bunny throws an alley-oop to LeBron. As LeBron soars above her in the air, Lola stretches her arms out in a clear nod to the now iconic image of Dwyane Wade's alley-oop to LeBron against the Bucks.

An iconic image in the sports world, this Easter egg is a nice treat for NBA fans, and for LeBron fans in particular. One of the defining NBA visuals of the decade, it's clear that many involved with Space Jam: A New Legacy are basketball fans.

The Nerdlucks

The Nerdlucks With Their Guns Out

The major villains in the first film, the Nerdlucks are relegated to a quick cameo in A New Legacy. As the Tune Squad faces off against the Goon Squad, they are shown briefly reacting to the events of the game.

With the filmmakers using only a few moments of unused animation from the original film, the Nerdlucks don't play a huge part in the sequence. However, the inclusion of the Nerdlucks in the film serves as a nice hit of nostalgia for fans of Space Jam.

The Adam West Batman Theme

Animated LeBron and Buggs Bunny as Robin and Batman

LeBron and Buggs Bunny's search for Daffy Duck leads them to the animated world of DC, where Daffy is clumsily fighting crime. As the two of them help Daffy Duck save a train on a collision course with an orphanage, the theme for Adam West's Batman plays.

While it doesn't come from Warner Bros. animated DC universe, the use of the song is a nostalgic reference to one of the most beloved adaptations of Batman. In addition, Bugs Bunny and LeBron are dressed similarly to Adam West's and Burt Ward's versions of Batman and Robin.

Friday Night Lights

The Cast Of Friday Night Lights

One of the film's best jokes comes when Daffy Duck brings in Michael Jordan to give the Tune Squad a half-time pep talk, only to reveal that he mistakenly got Michael B. Jordan. As Jordan pumps up the Tune Squad, he says the famous "Clear eyes, full hearts" line from Friday Night Lights.

A line that has become a staple in locker rooms, this Easter egg also works because of Michael B. Jordan's connection to the show. One of Jordan's best TV performances, his turn as Vince Howard in the show helped launch him into stardom, and this line is a nice wink to his past work.

Dame Time

Damian Lillard Guarded By Jokic

After professional basketball players are sucked into the game, they find themselves playing exaggerated versions of themselves with a specific superpower. Played by Damian Lillard, Chronos' super power is that he is able to manipulate time.

Chronos' superpower is a reference to phrase "Dame Time", a fan-favorite phrase used to describe moments when Damian Lillard completely takes over a game. In addition, the announcer says "it's Dame time!" as Chronos is introduced.

Big Chungus

Buggs Bunny Transforms Into Big Chungus

After LeBron finds himself sucked into the Server Verse, he finds himself on an empty Tune World only inhabited by Bugs Bunny. As Bugs Bunny introduces himself, he turns himself into a version of himself that looks similar to Big Chungus.

Big Chungus is a plump version of Bugs Bunny that was first seen in the classic Looney Tunes short Wabbit Season. A popular meme since 2019, Big Chungus has become a mainstay within meme subreddits.

Alfred

The Justice League In Space Jam 2

Another DC easter egg, this one also occurs as LeBron and the Tunes try to save the out of control subway train. The animated version of Batman's iconic butler Alfred can be calmly seen riding the subway as the chaos around him accelerates.

A blink-and-you-miss-it appearance, this is an exciting easter egg for fans of the Warner Bros. animated DC films. While Batman doesn't make an appearance in the sequence, the appearance of Alfred is a cool moment for fans of the Caped Crusader.

The Alan Parsons Project

The Bulls Introduce The Starting Lineup

Right as Sylvester is about to introduce the wrong Michael Jordan to the group, the song "Sirius" by the British rock group The Alan Parsons Project begins to play. A song that is popularly played at sporting events, it is most known to sports fans for being the music that plays during the starting lineups for the Chicago Bulls.

While it sonically works on a base level as a build-up to the joke, it hits even harder for basketball fans. Knowing the song's connection to Michael Jordan, the songs adds to the anticipation before the reveal.
