The first trailer for Netflix's Space Force is here, previewing Steve Carell's reunion with The Office creator Greg Daniels. Carell famously played the politically incorrect Michael Scott for seven seasons on The Office, and to this day it remains one of his best known roles. He recently returned to television for Apple TV+'s The Morning ShowHowever, fans are likely more excited for Space Force, as it will once again put Carell into the leading role of a boss in a workplace comedy. The fact that he created it alongside Daniels surely adds to the appeal.

Space Force looks to provide a comedic response to President Donald Trump's real life Space Force initiative, which was created last year and given a rather familiar-looking logo. In this fictionalized take, Carell plays General Mark R. Naird, an Air Force pilot who finds himself unwillingly tasked with leading the newly established Space Force. Netflix previously released a batch of first-look images for Space Force showing off the star-studded cast, which includes Lisa Kudrow, John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Diana Silvers, and Jimmy O. Yang.

Ahead of the show's May 29 debut, Netflix has released the first trailer for Space Force. In addition to showcasing the previously mentioned cast, the trailer teases the show's humorous tone and highlights the fact that it's a Carell-Daniels collaboration. You can see it for yourself in the space below:

While there will inevitably be comparisons made to The Office, it's worthwhile to note that Space Force feels like a very different show. Sure, it's a workplace comedy starring Carell as the boss, but from the trailer alone, Naird seems like a more competent worker than Michael Scott. Granted, it's to be expected that Space Force will feature plenty of mistakes from Naird, as well as a colorful cast of supporting characters. The trailer doesn't do much to introduce those characters, aside from establishing Slivers' character as Carell's daughter. Still, with the number of notable faces included in the series, one hopes they'll form a humorous, well-developed ensemble.

Space Force also arrives at a time when people are relying on streaming services more than ever, thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. While its debut is still a few weeks away, people will likely be eager to watch something new, and a comedy series featuring Carell might fit the bill perfectly. Does this mean Space Force will automatically be a success? No, but it certainly has a lot of things working in its favor. Viewers can decide for themselves soon enough.
