General Mark Naird (Steve Carell) and his team's adventures can continue with Space Force season 3, and here's every update about its potential release and story. Greg Daniels and Carell reteamed for another workplace comedy after The Office, but this time, it's available on Netflix. Naird has gone through a lot to properly establish Space Force as a reputable branch of the United States Arm Force since taking it over, so understandably, many are wondering what's next for him and his squad.
Premiering in 2020 on Netflix, Space Force's debut season was composed of 10 episodes. It's followed by a shorter season 2 with only seven offerings. Despite that, it was able to come up with a more succinct narrative, putting much of its focus on its core cast. Given the change in administration and the events of Space Force season 1 finale, Naird and his team worked hard to ensure that the organization ran effectively despite massive budget cuts. Space Force season 2 ended with another looming crisis, forcing the squad to band back together.
Despite generally mixed reviews from critics, Space Force has been a palpable hit for Netflix. Given its continued popularity, it would not be overly surprising if the show was renewed for a third season. However, even with the presence of bona fide superstars such as Carell and John Malkovich, this is far from guaranteed. Here's what's known about the future of the show so far.
Space Force Season 3 Predicted Release Date
At this point, no word yet on whether or not Space Force season 3 will move forward on Netflix. But, that shouldn't be a cause of concern for fans who are already looking forward to seeing what's next for Naird and the rest of the organization. For context, Space Force season 1 was released in May 2020, but it wasn't officially renewed for a sophomore year until November of the same year. In any case, the streaming giant rarely greenlights a brand new season right after a new one premiers which makes sense; the viewership of Netflix’s projects and their overall performance factor in this decision. Given this, Space Force season 3's potential release date will depend if/when it will be renewed. If it does, however, it won't be arriving until at least 2024.
Space Force Season 3 Cast
If Netflix moves forward with Space Force season 3, chances are that its core cast will return led by Carell. Curiously Lisa Kudrow, who plays Naird's wife, Maggie, had significantly less screen time in season 2. Otherwise, the rest of the principal characters were heavily involved throughout the show's recent run. Despite several resignation and firing scare as they dealt with budget cuts and constant criticisms, Naird's Space Force team remained intact. So, unless something drastically big happens to them, fans can expect Dr. Adrian Mallory (John Malkovich), F. Tony Scarapiducci (Ben Schwartz), Erin Naird (Diana Silvers), Captain Angela Ali (Tawny Newsome), Dr. Chan Kaifang (Jimmy O. Yang), and Brad Gregory (Don O. Lake) to all be back.
Space Force Season 3 Story Details
Unlike its predecessor, Space Force season 2 clearly sets up a follow-up narrative. Just when Naird was finally able to convince the administration of their work's importance, Dr. Chan spotted a massive asteroid moving towards the Earth's direction. But before the show could even reveal how Naird is planning to tackle this looming disaster, the show ended, which means that it's a storyline being saved for the potential Space Force season 3. As for Naird's love life, after his divorce from the still imprisoned Maggie, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that he begins to put himself back out there in the hopes of a new romance. Elsewhere, Erin may carve a brand new path for her as she takes a gap year, while Angela and Chan could finally start dating properly following their heart-to-heart talk. Either way, there are plenty of threads for the show to explore.
