South Park is moving part of its future to Paramount+ after the announcement of new movies and the show's renewal up to season 30. Over the past 25 years, South Park made a home for itself at Comedy Central. But the creators of the show are taking the brand across multiple services after their deal with ViacomCBS. With 14 new movies coming to Paramount+, HBO Max will no longer be the exclusive streaming home for South Park.

The show spent a quarter of a century making fun of just about anybody. For creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, no subject is taboo on South Park. The show remained topical for years as many of its episodes upon release pulled from trending news and topics, such as how South Park predicted Framing Britney or took on the climate change debate. While Comedy Central gave the show many creative freedoms, the HBO Max specials gave the team little to no limits on what they can show or say. So, while fans can still enjoy South Park on Comedy Central, its future looks to exist across more than one service.

The 14 new movies exclusive to Paramount+ look to follow in the vein of the HBO Max specials. As South Park's "Pandemic Special" episode hit a seven-year ratings high (via The Wrap), ViacomCBS may want to recreate that success with its own specials, especially if Paramount+ is to compete in the streaming game with the juggernauts like Netflix. Even as certain South Park episodes haven’t aged well, Stone and Parker landed more wins than losses to build a dedicated fan base that will follow the show no matter which service it's on. That doesn’t mean the audience without Paramount+ will be locked out of new episodes of South Park, however. At the moment, Paramount+ will be home only for these upcoming movies, two of which will release this year.

As people await the new season, releasing in 2022, they may also be pleased to know the show isn't going anywhere anytime soon with another five seasons planned through 2027. Through at least then, South Park will be on the same channel it’s been on for the last 25 years. Comedy Central is the home for the show, which doesn’t look to change, even after banning South Park episodes "200" and "201." The format has changed in recent years, however, with the channel giving Stone and Parker the trust to turn around episodes in just six days while offering shorter 10-episode seasons. This has allowed the show to stay topical and current with the news. In the off-seasons of the show, it could be the perfect time for the Paramount+ movies to drop so there's always South Park year-round.

For now, all 23 seasons and its two specials will live on HBO Max. While the show doesn't seem to be leaving the service anytime soon, South Park is branching out to Paramount+ to create some exclusive content. Even with more seasons of South Park on the way, it's exciting to know there will be new movies coming, as well.
